Cowherd....

Apples to oranges in terms of how to evaluate the coaches IMO.

The two coaches you refer to were at there respective schools for 17 and 15 years. They both started with with programs that were already at the level Tennessee is at right now. Neither had to rebuild a roster. Neither had to rebuild the culture.

And it took one, Fulmer, 5 or 6 years (depending upon how you look at the split year) to win the SEC.

The rebuild talk is almost comical anymore. You mention SC or Vandy 16' and you re living in the past and need to move on. The starting point is no longer relevant. UGA and UF have both fired coaches since Jones has been here.

Fulmer actually had to beat a legitimate UF team to even get the chance. Jones hasn't run in to one of those yet. And won't this year with UF or UGA.

Your point was what shouldn't get Jones fired. Fulmer won the division with 10 wins the season prior to getting fired and he actually had some legitimate hardware in the trophy case.

Every season is, and starts the same way. It's what makes it fun.

GBO!

Mid 60s.

Yep. Champ and even Mac with his 2 division crowns won't be confused with Spurrier or Meyer anytime soon.

I know..."he was at USCjr". But Im so glad we spanked his ass in his last years. We were still Tennessee and he was still Steve Spurrier.

Running into him in our hotel resturant last year after the UF game is high on my list of memories.

Didn't GA fire a guy who average 10 wins?

Back to back 9 win seasons shouldn't be that impressive at Tennessee (I get where we've been before him). Heading into year 5 he's yet to win the East. 9 wins is nice, but winning the East is what is needed to show progress.

He's at least shown the ability to try to improve the staff (I like the moves this year), and a heck of a recruiter. While all of that is nice, it's not the difference.

No reason to emulate stupid. GA may or may not have made a good choice - takes time to analyze decisions like that. Smart might be Saban 2, or he might be Dooley 2 coasting on Richt's leftovers and prime recruiting territory.

From what I gather over on the Junkyard forum, the UGA guys aren't exactly smitten with Kirby. They aren't complaining about him, but they aren't bought in either. Apparently Jacob Eason has been...extremely average looking in camp. Still has no timing with his receivers a couple of practices into the 2nd camp of the year, after playing with them all last season.

The Florida forums have some good tid bits of info too....

"The depth at linebacker is horrifying. One injury and we have to start a walkon?"

Welcome to the jimmyMac era fellas ;)

When considering how long to stay the course with a coach, you really have to evaluate performance to goals and conference wins. If the goal is to win championships, that starts with winning the SECE... which requires winning SEC games. If Team 121 finishes 8-4 and 4-4 in the SEC, then CBJ will have an 18-22 SEC record and (most likely) 0 championships. Finishing 9-3 and 5-3 or 10-2 and 6-2 would create a lot more confidence and goodwill going into Year 6.

It wouldn't be surprising to see a FL meltdown - something like UT under Battle. McElwain just isn't that impressive; he's running out of Muschamp's defensive players; and his offenses haven't been earth shaking by any means.

I fully expect Florida to collapse this season.

I think they could be looking at 3 loses in September. Michigan. Tennessee. Vanderbilt(trap game-week before LSU)

Man. If they actually were 2-3 leaving September...then they are looking down the barrel at LSU and A&M. Orgeron trying to gain support for his 1 season as coach. Sumlin coaching With his job on the line.

I am so glad that some on here are not the ones in charge of making decisions in the AD.

You would fire Jones, hire someone else and if that person lost a game you didn't like you would fire him.

And the current pumpers and negas completely switch positions...would actually be kinda fun. :w00t:
