Could Butch leave?

Just read these quotes on Tennessean.

Butch Jones: SEC coaching takes years off life

Now, I think it would be crazy to leave when you have the talent returning that Butch has, however, this does NOT sound like a coach that is loving the pressures of the SEC.

Any other thoughts? Insights? Could he pull an Urban?

Sounds crazy of you to ask.

He could always leave but why would he?

It's a great job but it is half finished, plus the fact he loves his work and would not leave these players behind. He is here to stabilize the program and to build it.

Workaholic. Who works a job like heck and doesn't stick around to reap from the rewards of it.

Like building a house and stopping halfway through it to go build another.

Dooley had it so much harder than Butch. Butch got the weakest SEC east in many years and a class full of legacies his first year here.

Butch's inherited dumpster fire is greater than (or less than depending on how you look at it) than Dummys.
Butch leave? No.. Let's give him 50 mil so he will stay, then fire him when he loses to fl next year. CBJ has UT right where he wants them, players and admin. True salesman

Butch isn't leaving

The pressure may take years off of your life...but the money you make doing it can buy them back plus a few..just sayin

How many legacy players have had any impact since Butch took over? Three maybe four at the most? From his first full class Evan Berry and Todd Kelly are the only two.

What programs would be interested in Butch? VaTech? Mizzou? USCe?

Really do not think those programs are going to pony up the money that would be required. And all of those would be a lateral, or lesser move. And it would be difficult for him to produce the success next season at any of those schools that he could potentially produce at UT.

The only advantage I would see for him to make that kind of move would be that it would re-start his clock, where at UT has has major pressure to produce next year. Considering his obstinate personality, I see him staying the course with what he has currently developed.

I have said it before I truly believe if he's smart he leaves. He goes to VA Tech, Syracuse, Purdue, one of those type teams. Usually the illusionist knows when their tricks are being found out and people are seeing through the magic. Cite an ungrateful fanbase at Tennessee or just say he'd rather be closer to home and then he at least has an excuse. He restarts the clock as the poster above says and buys himself at least 3-4 more years of relevance at a high level. And at a couple of schools he could go to just getting top 15-20 recruiting classes and 8-4 or 9-3 seasons would be hailed as a triumph.

Because next year at UT if he does stick around there are no excuses anymore. Get beaten at home by Florida and Bama and lose to UGA, A&M, Va Tech, or Missouri and finish 9-3 next year and the heat will be enormous.

Best way to beat the heat is to move on and restart the clock. Of course I'm a NegaButch so what do I know.

The specific issue was game day ability. I'm not sure Jones even came to UT with the reputation of being a great game day coach.

IIRC, Fuente has won 8 games this year with a great shot at a second consecutive 10 win season while starting 8 or so former walk ons. Temple went toe to toe with ND with a roster made up of mostly 1 and 2 star players. Rhule's NFL experience doesn't hurt either.

OK...good mid major coaches, I'd say probably very good in their short time at that level; all within their first 3 years of being HC and we really have no idea if they would be better than Jones.

Fuente has won 1 game he probably shouldn't have (Ole Miss)...his team has won some close ones and lost some close ones. It appears to me that he is competitive against his competition...much like Jones. I think it may be too early to tell if he is good enough to do all the things necessary at this level.

Rhule is having his first great season at Temple...another one that may be too early to call.

Babers is an interesting candidate but I'm not sure he's the right guy or better than Jones either. Short resume, he didn't inherit a mess at BGSU, but he's winning where he has HC'd so far. Just not enough to go on yet.

Just my take...there are a lot of young coaches out there doing pretty good at the level they're coaching. Gus Malzahn was one of them a few years ago...now the AU crowd isn't so enamored with their vunderkind.

I'll throw one back at you - Willie Taggert did a pretty decent job at WKU finishing their move into FBS and taking the team to its first D1 bowl game in 50 years. He seems to be digging USF out of the Skip Holts' hole...and beat Rhule a couple weeks back. May be too early...but I was impressed w/ what he did at WKU...and since a couple of my kids went there I did and do follow them a bit.

The only place Butch would even consider going right before his efforts start paying off would be georgia. I think he would have to think about georgia. he would consider it IMO. Nothing else even makes sense.

Why in the world would he consider jumping to Georgia when he's currently at Tennessee? How does that "make sense"?

if you read the article it clearly states that he knew prior to accepting the TN job, how much stress and responsibility it took to coach in this conference. This article has been looked into way too much. If it read" Coach Jones will be 50 in 3 years " ..you ppl would be all " OMG does this mean he'll be to old to coach? Should be start looking for a new coach?"
LOL .

Coach Jones's buddy Rich Rodriguez came under some pretty heavy scrutiny while at Michigan. And although I've not paid much attention, I'm sure Strong has taken a pretty good beating by the media, Internet, and fans down there in Texas. Even USC, which was normally 3 - 5 pages behind the Lakers, Clippers, the as yet unnamed NFL team to be relocated there, and the Dodgers in the papers, has drawn increasing scrutiny in the face of recent failings and missteps. At any one of the major college football programs in the country where the coach makes in the 3.5-4 million dollar range, there is going to be pressure. And there are rabid fans everywhere from Bama's Updike to Cubs fans threatening to kill Bartman and even going so far as publishing his address. Is it really that much worse at UT?

I hope Butch stays, but if not then I hear Spurrier and Miles are available...and Miles could pull The Chief back with him!!!

No thanks twice. Regardless of what happens with Jones (who probably isn't going anywhere)... Mizzou's DC and possibly DL coach could be available in a couple of weeks.

I'm not sure if Bajakian was encouraged to leave or not... but if those guys were interested in UT then I wouldn't mind if they suggested that Jancek and Stripling diversified their resumes.
