Enough of this beating Florida stuff!!!
Question: From
September 1994 - December 1997, what college football team beat the Florida Gators???
Bama & Nebraska & Florida State. However; they didn't beat them with any regularity.
My point is that NO ONE was beating them during that period. They were a hot program. Fulmer wasn't beating them. Paterno wasn't beating them. Bowden wasn't consistantely beating them. Holtz wasn't beating them.
After 1997, Florida started to show some cracks in their foundation. Teams were figuring them out, somewhat.
LSU, Casey Clausen, and other teams were able to expose them and get victories. After 1997, they were lucky to win most of the games that they won. They had lucky plays against U.T. to get a victory. They had
lucky plays against USC to get a victory.
Then when Spurrier left and Zook took over, they were vunerable.
No Manning didn't beat Florida from 1994 - 1997 but no one else did either, except Nebraska, Florida State or Bama. And they didn't do it consistantely.
I don't remember PM beating many top 10 teams or any really big games.
this. Gators from 1993-1997 absolutely dominated the SEC. Saban's Alabama is nowhere near the dominance that Spurrier had on this league. In 1995 Peyton dominated the Gators in the first half scoring I believe on his first four possessions. Then the Lawrence Wright (I think) hit on one of WR that resulted in a fumble really took the sails out of our offense and Florida massacred us. In 96 it was the first half where the Gators destroyed us. Peyton tried to lead us back but we couldn't recover an onside kick (I think) at the end. 97 our offensive line didn't let Peyton do anything and Jamal Lewis had yet to emmerge.
People forget that in 98 we were extremely fortunate to win as Florida outgained us like 500 yds to 200 in that game. Their offense moved the ball pretty well just the fumble at the one and costly turnovers and sacks at key moments of the game cost them the game (the opposite can be said of 1999 and 2000 where we were the better team and we lost). If Peyton had a defense like the 98 team that bent but didn't break then he would have been 3-0 against the Gators.
Tyler Bray has yet to start a game outside of the state of tennessee and we are comparing him to probably the best pure passer in SEC football in history.
I don't remember PM beating many top 10 teams or any really big games.
Could Bray be better than Peyton? Hmmm....
Your always gonna have those that when asked,"Who's the best QB at UT?" Hurry to look up the record books and strictly go by that, which Peyton owns but Bray is putting his stamp on a couple.
Then the other half it's all about could he win the big one's? And no doubt this weekend is a Big One, this is Bray's first career start against the gators, a game we will talk about no matter what the outcome is when Brays career is over and we reflect. For me, if he can break records that's awesome but to be to better than Peyton he has to win these type games.
So, ask yourself is it about being the best statistically at your postion or is it about them championships? We know what Peyton did and we know what he didn't do.
Tyler, go beat the gators.
