Could Bray be better than Manning?

Agreed, PM didn"t and still doesn't get it done in big games.

Nothing says "funny" like referring to a guy with a SEC championship ring to go with his Super Bowl ring as somebody who can't get it done in big games. It's not like lots of guys haven't pulled that trick off or anything...

first the title of this Tread made no sense.. then u Post a question about a QB who has yet to start a whole year. Manning got the start 2nd game of his freshman season and yes he Never beat Florida but you gotta figure that was during the Spurrier's prime time in Florida.. So to answer your question, which i think u asked if Bray beats FL this weekend will he be better than manning, HELL no.. When Bray puts Rocky Top back on the MAP, actually WINS a Heisman instead of losing to a DB/WR/KR/PR, and wins a NC...THEN he will be a hair better than Manning. You know what.. NO ONE will EVER be Better than Manning.. EVER... this post pissed me the hell off.. Let the damn kid grow instead of measuring him by the Best QB Tennessee has ever had game by game.. Damn

This exactly. Quit settin the kid up to fail! I hope he does great things but already trying to decipher whether or not he's better than the best QB to ever play here is insane. Plus, he hasn't even played a team worth a crap yet. Give him a chance!

Haha. The guy lost 5 games while at UT and has won i don't even know how many with the Colts with a terrible defense every year and you just look at the few games he's lost and say 'he can't win the big ones'. I guess we just forget about the countless wins he's had and say they were meaningless? You can't consider every game he's lost as 'not getting it done in big games'.

I know one thing I can say about PM is he never lost To alabama. I hoping the same can be said for TB. Also hoping to throw florida in the mix as well TB. I'm not saying he will beat florida every year, but a couple of times I would be happy.

Do you think 6 -2 is a good record with some of the teams we had back then?

Don't get me wrong, I loved Manning, but think he was a better NFL QB than College QB.

This statement makes me laugh.

Well pretty sure he had a hell of alot more time to put into football while being in the NFL without having to worry about classes in college. Peyton Manning is the best QB ever to be in the NFL, point blank period. So obviously that would make him better than he was in college right??

Peyton grew and kept growing year in and year out from college to the NFL and continues to perfect his skills. So comparing the two different times in his life makes no since. UT helped make him what he is today and Peyton has never forgotten it. And Peyton has helped make UT what it is today and we will never forget it.

As a senior, Manning won numerous awards; he was a consensus First-team All-American, the Maxwell Award winner, the Davey O'Brien Award winner, the Johnny Unitas Award winner, and the Best College Player ESPY award winner, among others; however, he did not win the Heisman, finishing runner-up to Charles Woodson.[37][38][39] In 2005, Tennessee retired Manning's number (#16).[40] One of the streets leading to Neyland Stadium has been re-named Peyton Manning Pass. Manning was elected to Phi Beta Kappa Society in 1997.

And one more thing, I sure hope we are having this conversation about Tyler Bray at the end of his tenure here but until he has a street named after him outside of the stadium "Peyton Manning Pass" the writing is literally there..

Maybe "Tyler Bray Bridge" lmao

I don't remember PM beating many top 10 teams or any really big games.

Alabama 3 times
UGA 3 times
Bowl 3 wins

Nope,no Floridas in there, but all were pretty big then.

Wanna run the Casey Clausen numbers also and compare his while we're at it?

Shut up.

....Humility?

Peyton showed some female trainer his bare ass when he was here.

I was referring to Bray's on-the-field demeanor. I certainly cannot attest to his comportment off the field, no more than you can.

Justification of why Bray didn't start from Game 1 in 2010 is exemplified in a comment made by Cheney to Gary Danielson before last year's Florida game:

According to Danielson, Chaney said: "He (Bray) has no idea what he's doing yet. We gotta break him down a little bit, because he's so darn cocky, he thinks he knows it all.''

As for Manning, that is a dubious example of a lack of humility, especially considering his reputation. More like a dumb prank gone awry.

Remember when everyone thought Erik Ainge was the next Peyton Manning?

How'd that turn out?

..not well. :)

It's all hypothetical.

He's breaking records and such and people are excited to have a competent QB again. You can tell it's been a while for us.

Good grief! Manning will be in both the NCAA and NFL halls of fame--and Tyler Bray is just a sophomore who has played games against underwhelming secondaries and inferior teams...except NCarolina--and how'd that turn out?

And, I'm old enough to remember all the BS! concerning Casey Clausen being better than PM after his sophomore year when he had better stats than Peyton at that time of his career...Anyone want to argue that Casey was better than Peyton?

Bray looks good so far to be sure, but please--like CDD said--now ain't the time for reflection--let's wait until after the season's over to even ask these silly questions.

Go VOLS!!! BEAT 'DEM gators! :salute:

It seems like most people are forgetting the original post question, which is COULD
Tyler Bray be better than Peyton Manning. The post doesn't say, "Is TB better than PM?".

I didn't forget the original question--Could He...? People were asking the same question AFTER Casey Clausen's entire Sophomore year and thinking that Casey would leave for the NFL early...So--I stand by my original post...Now ain't the time to even ask that question considering the quality of competition Bray has played against--and he definitely ain't been hit hard--yet...:peace2:

I'm not just referring to you. Did Clausen break any of Mannings records? He may have; I'm just asking?

I will quote the OP because the question was if he beats Florida does that make him better than Peyton.

So with Tyler Bray lighting up the competition so far and will probably smash all of UTs passing recoreds. If he beats the Gators as Manning never did would he be considered ''Better'' then Manning as a college QB!!

Beating Florida now will not make him better. We could turn around and say if Bray doesn't win 75% of his bowl games, win the SEC, win 90% of the games he starts etc then he is not as good as Peyton. There is a long list of things Bray needs to check off before we go into the Manning discussion. Beating Florida would make me happy though.

well, in all fairness, we'll never know how good Ainge could have been at the next level because of his addictions

Beating FL will not make Bray better than Manning - this is a rediculous comparison and you can't make it until Bray is in his prime as an NFL QB

Bray is the best QB we've had in quite some time - and regardless of how much learning and developing he still may need, it sure beats the revolving door of QBs we've had under Kiffin and Fulmer's last few years. Stick with him, let him grow, best way to handle good young QBs
