Of the 77 points that Tennessee averaged this season, they are losing 70.6 between graduation and transfers...and that's only if Civil stays (unlikely).
They're literally losing their entire team. That's not particularly easy to replace.
With all due respect to Lvocd, LV basketball is clearly not dominating the national conversation. Crooks transfer is the one getting mentioned on ESPN, not Coops. The good news is that LV b-ball is no longer sliding toward irrelevance; it is now officially irrelevant. Our big splash hire is an assistant coach from a program who had a worse season than we had. So, we remain an upward move for those at bottom feeder programs (for now at least). I have no doubt the Big O is working on an exit strategy to a school where her talents will be recognized on the national stage.Dominating the conversation during the tournament? It occurs to me that may not be a bad thing. Just need to hire the best and brightest spin doctors. I heard there were some locally seeking career adjustments.
Let's put a pin in your post. I am hopeful that next year's squad will equal or exceed this year's number of SEC wins and finish ahead of Mizzou. But, the LV diehard fan base is the only group squawking in protest. The broader fan base for WCBB is talking about the final 4 and player of the year Sarah Strong.
One narrative that is getting a lot of traction in the UT social media world is a very misogynist one of "Kill the LVs and give the money to Barnes (and baseball)." That re-allocation may be the actual direction that DW is heading (i.e., not actually killing the program but just letting it be a perfunctory check mark on the Title IX box with minimal funding). So, in that sense, Kim may be the perfect coach for implementing this agenda. This year shattered all fan expectations so there will be more acceptance each yeat of the LVs being at the bottom of the SEC. I would not be surprised if MIzzou finishes ahead of next season.
Oh no!!! If it turns out I am being overly pessimistic, I surely will be exiled to Siberia by the Vol Nation bad prediction police squad!! Woe is me......Let's put a pin in your post. Please tell me the boosters are coming up with a plan to get this woman out next year and the AD put in his place.... like what is going on right now should be infuriating everyone including Candace Parker
These developments both break my heart and make me furious. What competent player, who could play at another division one program, will reasonably want to take a chance on coming to Knoxville to play for an inexperienced coach with a unique “system”who just lost her entire team? This is particularly concerning given the absolute silence from the coach, the athletic department and the schools’ administration about how they intend to approach and solve the dilemma. Silence is not golden in these circumstances. Someone in authority needs to speak up and explain what happened and how it is going to be remedied. It is nearly impossible to believe that there is going to be a long line of young athletes willing to risk their futures on what appears to be a sinking (or sunk) ship. Limiting public comments to “every ‘ting gonna be alright” is irresponsible.
She can’t move her feet on defense, so she gambles for steals, and she would just jack up shots in garbage time while we were getting blown out, to make herself look good by getting her stats.Personally, I’m glad Cooper is leaving. Yes she was a heck of an offensive player. But her defense was nonexistent 95% of the time, she was lazy as he!!, and definitely was NOT a team player. It was all about 55. That was the problem with the majority of our team….selfish.
There are a few that I hate to see go, but to have a good team, you have to have: 1st - players that want to win for the Lady Vols & 2nd - players that play hard, with good attitude & no quit in them.
My $0.02
...and I guess Kim used up all her coaching mojo in that game on Feb. 12th, the last win of the season....a month before the end of the season. You know we still finished tied for 6th in the SEC final standings last season, right? We still LONG ways from the bottom. Kim waxed Kellie's Mizzou team by 40 last season still I think. Relax. We gonna be fine.
On their worst nights, they are still better than half the league. I'm not a fan of the modernized "Curry ball," but let's not pretend Bama hasn't done very well with the same gameplan on the men's side recently. The style is the best way for underdogs to play (we are underdogs now). It allows you to land 5 star athletes you wouldn't otherwise land trying to play defense like Barnes does. These kids don't want to play defense anymore, but that group last year under Caldwell quit so many times I would have canned the entire team long ago. Wanna fire Caldwell? Fine. Just stop pretending the players we paid to play last year were actually playing hard. Because they certainly were not. And, that's 100% on them and them alone. How do you define fine? It looks like a train wreck. This is unless CKC can keep Civil, bring in O and the other freshman and recruit a bunch of high percentage three shooters who can play fact pace women to woman defence. Playing hockey style, she is gonna need 10 of them. Most five-stars want to be coached up to the next level and most teams believe that your best five players should be on the floor most of the time. I am not saying hockey-style basketball will not work but you need a certain type of ball player with similar talents and skillsets where they are interchangeable who play with the same intensity and you have very little fall off.
Yep. I’ve considered such a scenario. The vast desert wasteland ahead…With all due respect to Lvocd, LV basketball is clearly not dominating the national conversation.
