That was the whole point of McFarlane’s series, to be a little darker, creepier, and edgier. His Amazing run is pretty straightforward superhero fare.

Back in the day, I would get plenty of great comics at McKays for $1 or less.
Now they are like eBay.

The one in Knoxville is terrible now.
All the good books are now priced accordingly in the show cases.
Honestly, I can’t say I blame them I suppose, just stinks because I used to find really good stuff.
I haven’t been to the Chattanooga location in a few years.

I’ve mentioned the Batman Dark Patterns series in here before. It’s the best Batman content that’s out right now. Good reads and great art.

And a quick mural update. My daughter is gone for three weeks. I was assigned to bricks and window panes while she is gone. This bldg has me cross-eyed.

Added these today to close some missing areas in the collection. A little moisture damage on the Batman cover, but the inside pages don’t really show anything. Good adds and got them all for cheap. $10 for the Batman, $5 for each of the Kraven’s Last Hunt issues, and $5 total for the other three ASM.

Kraven's Last Hunt is one of my favorite story lines in comics. Great writing, great art and just a fantastic complete story from start to finish.

Sad to hear comics legend Jim Shooter passed away at 73. He had apparently been battling esophageal cancer the last few years.

Shooter got his start in comics writing for DC comics at the age of 14.

He would eventually become EIC at Marvel in the late 70s overseeing one of the most impressive eras of the company with stories like Dark Phoenix Saga, Frank Millers DD, Walt Simonson’s Thor, and the early part of Peter David’s Hilk run, along with successful licensed properties like Star Wars, Transformers, and GI Jo. Most notable he was the writer of the original Secret Wars max-series.

After Marvel he founded Valiant comics which had a successful first couple years during the early part of the 90s speculator boom. He was eventually ousted and tried again with Defiant comics, which got sued out of existence by Marvel in 18 months, and then an even shorted lived Broadway Comics.

After that he bounced around in various production capacities and would step into the occasional writing gig here and there. He was still pretty active in the convention circuit and was always open to do interviews.

Three new additions. Another cover with Batman being pushed out of a flying vehicle (bonus pts in my book for the US Capitol in the background). And one with Batman jumping out of a plane. And finally Hulk 131 with Iron Man on the cover. It’s such a good cover.
