Comic Books

I mentioned I’m turning my basement workshop into a comic/puzzle shop. My daughter is home from college and started on a mural for me yesterday. It’s a mix of the cover of Batman Chronicles 10, some selected panels from comics, and then our family as super heroes.

The wall on the left will be a Spiderman skyline. Going to be pretty cool.

She’s so talented. Fun to watch her work. Hope the future buyer of this home is a comics fan. 😬

This is outstanding!

Anyone going to HeroesCon next week? If so, stop by and say hi. I'll be helping my friends at the Buzzard Brothers booth. Not sure if they got them back from CGC but they have a bunch of the Bronze DC horror comics with Wrightson and Adams art. I was floored at how good the condition on some of those books are. Lots of Golden, Silver and Bronze to be enjoyed.
It's been a few years since I got to go since I always had schedule conflicts with Magic card conventions going on simultaneously. I'm pretty stoked.

That looks fun! I’ve never been to an event like that. I’ll definitely have to add that to the calendar for a future trip for my kids and me.

I think someone mentioned displaying comics in his mancave. I saw a YouTube video recently that had a simple way of doing this with j-trim. I’m turning my workshop in the basement into a comics/puzzles/legos room for the kids and me. I tested out the j-trim, and it works great. I did three rows out from a corner and kind of stair-stepped them down. I’ll probably rotate the comics I have on display.

That Secret Wars #8 still eludes me and probably always will.

wow!

I picked up my first copy of Secret Wars #8 back in 1990 at the old Smoky Mountain Collectibles on Broadway that was across from K-Mart for 25 cents. It's not in the greatest of shape but I still have it. I think I was able to get about 5 or 6 of the issues for Secret Wars there. They had boxes and boxes of comics and they were all 25 cents each. Marvel books were pretty scarce as the boxes had loads of Firestorm, Blue Beetle, Star comics, New Universe and other terrible titles. I spent a few days worth of time digging hoping to find any X-Men comic and never saw one, lol.

I picked my copy up at a local used book store. I think it was the first comic with Spiderman that I ever bought. Primarily bought GI Joe comics as a kid. Oddly enough, I don’t have any of the GI Joe comics anymore. I’m not sure what happened to them. But Secret Wars 8 keeps following me.

That’s the only OG Secret Wars that I need.

Oh man you just brought back some memories!!
My dad would take me in that place from time to time and I’d get a G.I. Joe comic and then we’d eat at Burger King next door(or really close)

I think it was Burger King???

I went to Six Flags Dallas and it was hilarious to see they still have Death of Superman era art on the ride. Superboy with the leather jacket and Man of Steel! It's been 30 years!
The Spiderman ride at Universal can’t be much removed from that era either. It’s DATED.

Edit: Just checked. It’s from 1999, so still the nineties.

Even in 1990 that was a steal for 25¢!!

Another funny note. I haven't collected comics in 30 years and I take my 4 YO boy to the store every once in a while and get him a few old Spiderman comics...I had forgotten how dark the MacFarland comics are. He got the one with Krave tH with his head blown off, and another one where Spidey and Wolverine are chasing a pedophile. LOL. Was not expecting that.

Speaking of Kraven, this one arrived today. Cover has seen better days, but it’s in one piece and attached.

Also, while it’s from the lion’s eyes on the vest, one would think they would have adjusted where the tasers shoot from. I know the eyes release gasses and other stuff in some issues, but the tasers are different. Looks like he’s firing tasers from his nipples.
