Things I like about Underwood:

-Fast pace, forces turnovers, hammers boards. You guys like Shaka, right?
-Team-oriented guy. Lots of passing to find open shot.
-Unlike Donnie, actually guards the three-point line!

Don't like:

-That defensive free throw rate. You can't be handing out free throws that much in Power 5 hoops.
-The offensive assist rate. You can be team-oriented to a fault.

I recalled that Mike Hamilton took a half-hearted swing at Jay Wright, and that it might be worthwhile to take another crack at the guy. As befitting a top eleven attendance program and a 100 mil athletic budget.

And then I saw his current package (3.5 mil)....ah well. Never mind.

Richard Pitino had an all-senior and junior starting lineup this year and went 6-12 in the worst Big Ten since 2008. I'm good.

Cuonzo Martin went to the sweet 16 with an all junior and senior lineup and left us with garbage.

Brad Underwood.

9th in points
1st in assist per game
5th in FG%

61-8 overall (35-1 in conference play)

He's been to the tourney both years and upset VCU last year.

Because of his last name? He hasn't been great at Minnesota.

The last name is great but is not always a homerun hire. Case Derek Dooley. I think Minnesota is tough place to win and recruit to. I think he would well here but then again that is imo

Not to crap on Underwood, but he took over a very successful program at SF Austin who was 27-4 the year before he got there. He could be great or he could be maintaining what was already in place.

How come no one is wanting Cuonzo back?

I want him back but kind of pointless to talk about something that can never happen. I wish petition morons understood this about Perl a year ago - then you would not have to ask this question since Cuonzo would still be here.

I agree with that somewhat, but I saw them while Kaspar was there and now during Underwood's tenure. They play harder and smarter than I thought they had the potential for under Kaspar. They don't beat VCU under Kaspar, either.

Underwood is our guy. Very hard working coach and his teams are fun to watch. Pretty good recruiter for a smaller school like SFA. We can get him if we really try and show him we are interested. I'm hoping hart has already spoken to him or is about to within 48 hours.

Ever heard of a thing called revenue? :lolabove:

Ever heard of the fans going over there regardless of the product? Tennessee has the most loyal fan base in the country and the UTAD knows this. Until that place is pretty much empty they wont change their plan. Hire a new coach on the cheap, fans get excited buy tickets, spend money, said coach under achieves by year three and attendance starts to dwindle, fire coach. Wash, rinse, repeat.

They can stroll any turd out there, tell the fan base it's filet and they'll lap it up. 15K in there regardless.

Press conference syndrome. Fans overreact both ways - they'll hate the hire for not being a "big name" or whatever at first and then fawn over him as soon as he steps in and says Tennessee was his dream job.

I would like to know why Hunter is on the list? One appearance in the field of 32 is not what I call a great accomplishment. White hasn't done anything either. The others are pretty solid.

Because he "fell" off a stool and is entertaining. He shouldn't be an option. At all.

My, somewhat realistic, personal wish list:
Gregg Marshall
Archie Miller
Dan Hurley
Chris Holtmann
Michael White
Ed Cooley

Haven't seen Dan Hurley's name yet. Like the outside-the-box thinking. I'd get with you on Holtmann but his late-game coaching (to me, anyway) was really underwhelming from what I saw.

As a VOL fan for life, this is just another blow to our program. To me, bottom line is we would have never lost Martin to CAL if it was not for our ridiculous fan base. The problem in Tennessee is the extreme fan base that somehow over screams, over writes and seems to garner more attention than the moderate fan base causing the admin at UT to make some bad or at least very tough decisions. Once Fulmer was ousted the way he was, no wonder no one wanted to coach UT, thank god Butch Jones is thick skinned and seems to let the bull crap blow over..obviously Pearl lied but did do a great job, so no way was Martin ever gonna fill his shoes.. then getting Bobby to coach at UT with a track record of problems, but a record of winning was another knee jerk reaction because the UT hardliners/ over expectation having fans just blow up social media, radio and every platform they can get on to bash UT if we lose, so we really never have a chance of winning.
