Coaching Search Thread

Rick Barnes is a chronic underachiever. No way. Lavin is terrible. Jaime Dixon is OK, but he's another one who never does anything in the tournament. There are plenty of really good young coaches out there if we have someone smart and thorough doing the search.

I don't get the feeling that many people on this board watch basketball aside from Tennessee. I'll leave it at this: I have never seen a coach do so little with so much for so long like Rick Barnes has. Not even Mack Brown.

I used to keep up with basketball much more a few years back, but even then I don't know if I'd agree with you about Rick Barnes. He's done well with Texas. Granted his vastly talented team with A.J. Abrams, D.J. Augustin, Dexter Pittman, and Kevin Durant didn't do as well as they should, he's definitely ground out wins to make the tournament with much less talented teams.

The excitement is gone from Texas basketball. There comes a time when long-tenured coaches need to move on. Rick Barnes has reached that time. He's a great coach, just been at the same place too long.

I'm with you on this one. Blow this garbage pile up, get a young coach with potential in here, and let him build the program. The "proven" names in your post are exactly what you say, good with limited ceilings.

See this is problem.

His "less talented teams" - such as this year's team with future top 10 pick Myles Turner - needed selection committee love to even make the field.

And if you guys want exciting basketball or whatever you should start watching Brad Underwood's Stephen F. Austin teams right now. Shaka Smart-like defense at a lower salary.

Agree. He has a low buyput apparently and someone needs to hire him and Dave Hart should be on the phone with him immediately. I mean 61-8 in two years of basketball at any conference level is amazing.

This. He'll get a big gig sometime soon either way.

He's currently making 400k at SFA
