Did the coaches step on the left guards ankle, miss a very makeble fg in the first half, or jump offsides on 3rd and 6 late ensuring we would not get the offense back on the field?

With that said the coaches didn't lose the game tonight but it's painfully obvious coach Knowles has got to teach assignment, technique to include how to tackle in the open field and stop running yourselves out of the play on defense.

Objectively the defense needs a lot of work and I think the decencies on the defensive side of the ball and a couple of ill timed missed FG are the difference between a 2 -3 loss season and a 5 loss season.

Go Vols
Need portal player's. There could have been PI'S called on us. I believe the DB should be looking at the QB.

What I don’t understand, other than just being ignorant is with 2:08 left, why not call a TO ? He calls it with 1:56 left. Thats elementary coaching and it’s not some type of philosophy. If you’ve watched Band of Brothers, Heup reminds me a lot of Capt Sobel. When it gets down to making critical decisions, he can’t function in critical moments.

No disrespect but you're an idiot. Huepel lost his QB and best defensive player before the spring game surely not a genius like you would think Gilbert would not be the kicker going into the season, but as the season played out there is a possibility Gilbert might not be the guy. Jumping offsides is no different than missing a chip shot fg. It's a tightening of the sphincter.
Stop projecting. Writing was on the wall in the UK game last year with Gilbert.

When you get pushed around on both sides of the ball it's not only talent. It is much deeper than that and has to be taken care of by re-evaluating everything you are doing and who is teaching it from the waterboy to the head coach.

I suppose you can always have, or want to have, more talent at any given position. And, the ever present injury bug always plays a role. That said, here in year 5, I've seen some of the same things happen year to year....some more, some less. As such I lean towards coaching overall. After all this time I wouldn't call the OL dominant in any year, as a complete unit. Maybe they were competitive for most of one year - or this game or that game, but I can't call them dominant, or consistent. Unfortunately, I can say the same thing for the secondary. And there are few games (mostly last year) where I'd even say they were good. Consistency of performance over multiple years, where players come and go, for me, land in the lap of the position coach and overall coordinator. Regretably, some of this takes time for US to see - but I don't give a HC, at this level, the same about of time to reach certain conclusions. Again, not at this level!!!

Lol I stand corrected Gilbert was 0/3 that night. But that game never had one come down to him having to make one or we lose the game. If it did he would have been 0/4 lol.

Your not an idiot on Gilbert but I absolutely don't get down with pre snap penalties with the game on the line. If your contention is the defense needs better coaching then I think Huepel addressed that after the Vanderbilt game. It will be interesting to see what JK can bring to our defense. These kids are professional now and they have to start acting and playing like it.

Didn't vote. I want hype to do great! Just disappointed now. Early on i kept jumping up and saying " run the dang ball every down" Come on i know hype is a great coach, But you're going to have to get tougher Offense

Heupel needs to turn into an ******* and toughen up the culture. The one thing that has been consistent about this season has been the lack of accountability.

What scares me most about Heupel is that we could be 9-10 months away from not having Tony V AND Rick Barnes on campus and he will be the guy / face of UT Sports.

He has largely skated by not needing to be the face because of how loud Tony was and how automatic Rick Barnes has been.

Heupel is just now getting put under the spotlight and he's not managing it well.

I think the Georgia game threw this team for a loop and we never recovered. Throw in tons of injuries on the defense and we just couldn’t get any momentum
I’m way past blaming an OT loss from 3 months ago with how poorly this team looked in Tuscaloosa, throughout November and again today. Especially when it was a consistent pattern. This is primarily a coaching issue.

The Vols have plenty of talent to beat Illinois 10 out of 10 times. It’s the lack of talent development which is piss poor coaching. The current defensive staff couldn’t successfully coach a team with Albert Haynesworth John Henderson, Leonard Little, Al Wilson, Terry Fair, Eric Berry, and a host of other past Vol greats. The defensive staff sucks ass. Good riddance. Let’s see if Knowles can coach these soft and undisciplined losers into a top 10 defense. I’ll be shocked if he can to be honest. I think Huepel has bred losing into the culture. No heart, no desire to win, and soft as hell.

Maybe in 4 years figure out that linemen make up the sec. Never mind that Rocket joe was hypes guy 2 years in a row. Thankfully Hendon Hooker was a Rudy like all heart and tough as nails leader. I challenge hype to develop or play a young qb
It's a good point. I’d turn it over to McIntyre next year. But in this modern game you almost have to go to the portal to get a veteran. We shall see.

Got blasted by a top tier Big 10 program last year, just got spanked by a middle of the road Big 10 team this year, Heupel continues to regress with this program, the biggest loss is GMAC not taking a snap in front of the Nashville crowd, we still only beat one team this year with a winning record, ETSU
GMac is a G5 (or high FCS) kid. There is nothing wrong with that at all.

If he were a kid from GA (pick a state other than TN), you wouldn't be on that d***.

And he absolutely took over a FB program that was almost as bad as the baseball team when Tony V came to town. We were 3-7 and lost 34-7 to Kentucky that season. Lighten up Francis
