China Thread

China is spending 2x-3x on it's military what Russia is.

An important difference being that China is generally OK with a US-lead international structure, while Russia is seeking to destroy it.

For now. We schedule and attempt to dictate the how and when; the Oriental world is patient and simply perseveres until it wins. Vietnam is a perfect example; when our national patience wore out and we went home, the N Vietnamese won as they had always planned.

We do short term thinking; they do long term planning and win in the end unless decisively knocked out first, but they won't invite that opportunity - unless they are ready.

The Russians consistently undermine themselves with their crude, thuggish behavior.

China's ultimate goal is to be the sole super power. They plan on having a war with us when they feel they can defeat us. They've never made that a secret and our government thought that once they got a taste of wealth that they would change their ways, which they haven't. China is very dangerous.

Never heard that before. Pretty bold goals for a military in which no one from generals on down to privates has any combat experience. They have a well trained core of men, maybe 100,000, who are heavily trained but the balance have almost no training at all. North Korea is a threat to them.

I have always thought that would be a good place for Chinese expansion.

There only ally is China, and even that has been stretched. It gives them a place to expand, gives them another coast line closer to Japan. Gets them combat experience, both for the troops and their equipment. and the rest of the world might even thank them for doing it and ending a host of human rights violations.

Ready for what? What is the long term plan? When did it start?

No offense to AM64; he seems sincere and like he's spent a good deal of time thinking about this, both very admirable, but I've never bought the notion that the Chinese are long-term planning. I know it's probably unwitting, but it has always struck me as falling prey to stereotypes about the East. The ole' "Oriental wisdom" thing. Although it is certainly true that nations like China - if they want an effective foreign policy - need to be far more judicious than the United States. They're much more vulnerable and relegated to bad neighborhoods, while we're relatively secure and inviolable on our continental-island fortress.

For much of history, even into the '70s, China was largely had a isolationist bend. So there's just not a track record to say how well they do with long-term international "plans."

China is currently running long term operations vs short term ones as far as what they are getting involved in. They are doing a lot of the US/Russia empire building. Bases in foreign countries, resource rights, comanaged intelligence. but they aren't getting involved in any of the conflicts as of yet.

A U.S. defense contractor was threatened with bankruptcy by Chinese hackers seeking jet fighter logistics secrets, according to the Pentagon’s Joint Staff.

A report earlier this month by the Joint Staff’s J-2 intelligence directorate revealed that the American contractor, a company involved in classified defense work, was threatened by Chinese hackers, according to Pentagon officials familiar with the report.

The Communist Chinese demanded access to the company’s intellectual property, and said unless the company secrets were provided, China would steal the data, reverse engineer it, and then sell it internationally in a bid to force the company into bankruptcy.

interesting. China to stop accepting coal imports from N. Korea due to nuke/missile tests

North Korea says China 'dancing to the tune of the US' - BBC News

Last week, China announced a ban on coal imports during 2017, in response to North Korea's continuing ballistic missile tests.
The statement did not name China, but referred to a "neighbouring country" which "often claims" to be friendly.
"This country, styling itself a big power, is dancing to the tune of the US," the state-run news agency said.
