Maybe there is a reason Georgia fired Jancek and Martinez
The garbage that was coming out in support of Butch before the season was way premature.
Similarly, the decision to give Butch a raise this past off season was about as short-sighted a decision as you'll ever see.
Peyton has repeatedly said he doesn't want to be a head coach, but would look into QB coaching possibly.
The serious underlying problem with Butch is that he doesn't believe in himself and it shows in several ways. He can't answer a question straight up without relying on the "safety net" of his coach speak sayings. He can't make an in-game decision without relying on the "safety net" of his chart. He can't hire an O Coordinator without relying on the "safety net" of hiring his previous mentor. He can call a few "risky" plays when he's behind because he has nothing to lose, in his mind, but once he gets a lead or feels "invested in victory" as he likes to say, he plays to "protect his hand." He doesn't have the belief in himself or the courage to take the risk in order to seize the opportunities provided to him. This is scary because we can now see how this effects his ability to take responibility for the bottom line. He blames the chart or youth/immaturity, something, anything else besides himself. He feeds the delusion that if he sticks to said chart or his coach speak "fundementals," he can do no wrong. The fact that he can shamelessly and righteously defend himself claiming a chart told him to make a decision is scary. That's not a leader mentality. IMO Butch has "put his identity on video" and until he decides to man-up and take responsibility for the team and stop reaching for excuses, then we will be seeing more of the same no matter if he gets enough talent to get to consistent 9,10,11 win seasons. That being said I love Butch as a person and am thankful for what he HAS done thus far and I hope he can bring us many championships, I just don't expect him to at this point.
Let's extrapolate. So we have to beat Alabama for Jones to keep his job. In a year where 8-4 was the benchmark. Say he goes 6-2 by some accident we end up in Atlanta. Fire him then?Really clever insight by some online coaches.
No he wouldn't...He has more talent at UTAH than we do here right now...UTAH wold clean our clocks.
Not that UT fans need to hear this, since we're living it, but Jones' reputation nationally has taken a huge hit this month:
1. Butch Jones is in trouble. Understand what I mean by this after Tennessee blew another late lead, lost another game it controlled and fell once again to Florida (make it 11 straight losses and counting). I'm not saying Jones will or should be fired after this year. But is Jones in trouble? Yes. He may continue to point to strong recruiting classes on signing day and preach about next year. The problem is Tennessee fans don't want to hear it when Jones' teams inexplicably blow leads. That's two losses this month that were games Tennessee should have won. Florida's Jim McElwain out-coached Jones and won a game even the Gators' coach said his team didn't deserve.

Hard to believe how much has changed since this article came out on Sept. 10th, but two enormous debacles will do that:

It would be enough for me under condition that Butch brings in another top 10 class. However I think that is very doubtful now when recruits will know he is on hot seat - competitors will make sure to point that out, and also to point out to QB and WR prospects that his system will not utilize them and/or put them into NFL.
