CBS Sports: Butch Jones is in trouble

If you think we're going 8-4 after the way we lost the 2 games we lost....I just don't know what to say. Mizzou's defense will stuff us. Arkansas will probably win as well.

I do think we end up 8-4. 7-5 will be worse case scenario. This team and coaches are seconds and inches away from greatness. I see the entire improvement over last year. They will eventually translate that improvement into wins. This team is still developing and so is this coaching staff.

UT administration had a history of giving raises to former coaches when it was not warranted . This isn't the first time it's happened.

Is it just me or Does everything Bama Dave touches gets messed up???

Revisit the schedule, and try it with a neutral eye.

Bama and UGA are losses. There's two.

Mizzou and UK on the road. There's one more.

Arky and USCe at home. Wouldn't surprise me to see us let one of those get away.

Thankful we have Vandy at home. That one we should...should...win.

And UNT is all but a gimme.

Right now? The over/under is 6.5. If we should lose to Arkansas, then we're 2-5 after the UGA game, and the O/U slips to 4.5.

I wish I had your sense of optimism. Unfortunately, I've seen what this coaching staff does with a lead.

Go Vols.

If we lose to Arky, there is no salvaging this year. Arky isn't a good team this year. We are 2 plays away from 4-0.

"Next up in the batter's box........Watson Brown" LOL

I know.....why don't we go ahead and start planning for the 3 year coaching rotation now. Send in your list for the next 3 prospects.

Yeah... guess you're right. Much better to tolerate a coach who loses until he can't recruit anymore and runs the program into the ground.

Just like we beat Florida for sure. This is the same crap you guys say after EVERY loss...

I never said we would beat UF. Quite frankly I have been in shock just how good this team has looked in the first 3 qtrs this year. We saw major offensive adjustments from the OU game. I expect to see more moving forward. The only problem I have with either side of the ball play calls yesterday were 2.

The 4th and 14, 3 man rush on D. And the 3rd and 8 sweep on our next to last drive. You go all out on those 2 plays. Those are the 2 plays Butch says affect the end of the game.

Think this team is better than Butch is giving them credit for being. Instead coaching and expecting them to win close games, he should be teaching them to keep putting opponents away by continuing to put points on the board.

A good coaching staff would have won the OU and the UF games by 21 points or better. I support Butch, but he has to get better in a hurry.

butch will get at least through 2016 to turn it around and win big---unless he loses 7-9 in 2015.

Yeah... guess you're right. Much better to tolerate a coach who loses until he can't recruit anymore and THEN HIRE A COACH WHO HOPEFULLY PERFORMS BETTER WITH THOSE GOOD RECRUITS ESPECIALLY SINCE CBJ IS LIKELY RETAINED FOR 2016

☆all caps to show my fix bc I'm on mobile

Gary Patterson,Kyle whittingham, chip Kelly. I like Baylors offense so throw art in as well. Won't ever get any of them though because we are cheap

We tried to get Briles and Patterson (TCU) before Butch and neither would bite. Briles isn't going anywhere as he has built Baylor into relevance and he is being paid top $$$. Paterson is the same. Whittingham maybe, but I'd say he like the west coast. Chip Kelly will still be in the NFL.

Let me preface this by saying, my Dad took me to my 1st game in 1957. I'm an alum; moderate donor and have had season tickets for over 30 years. I've seen a lot of ups and downs over the years and I'm still here.

I was asked by some of my fellow Vols for my preseason assessment of the 2015 VOLS and I said that I thought this team could take the SEC East, IF:

(1) we had no major injuries;
(2) the players had no major off-the-field issues; and
(3) the coaches could avoid major in-game brain farts.

I was blasted by some of those friends for my point of view and chastised for being “negative”.

So far in 2015, CBJ and his staff have farted often and loudly in 2 of our 4 games. Some might even say they have shat their britches. Maybe there is a reason Georgia fired Jancek and Martinez and DeBord has not held a meaningful college coaching gig, since 1997-98?

It was reported last night, that teams with 13+ point lead going into 4th quarter are 188 – 3 (Since updated to 211 – 3). Our CBJ-coached team has 2 of those 3 losses. The other team is New Mexico State.

“Realty is a *****!”, or maybe I should say “Reality is a bUTch!”

Go VOLS!! I’ll be at the Arkansas game with my 3 grandsons.

What do you have against the buying and selling of residential, agricultural, and or acreage properties?

We're not losing because of talent. We're losing because of coaching blunders.

If we can dominate Oklahoma and Florida for most of those games, we can play with Georgia and Alabama.

I agree. It's time for Butch to realize just how good these Vols and teach them to smell blood and go for the kill by piling on points, instead of holding on for dear life.

Oh, you have insider knowledge? Cool. I'd love to hear the details of the deals Briles and Patterson were offered that they turned down. So lucky to have a dependable source like you here.

Why would he come here. He has a better program at Utah right now.

Why wouldn't he? Like some have said we got the money to pay for a big time coach.. Like VFL34 said we so close from havering Gruden but to all it was a pipe dream or a joke..

If everyone knew who VFL34 was they might be more likely to believe you.

And it's nuts some don't know.. It's right there in plain sight.. Esp when he talks about the program..

I started to ask him if he watched high school ball Friday night. my kids team beat his high school team for the #1 spot in the state rankings. But after the rest of the weekend I was afraid he might track me down and beat the crap out of me.
Lulz

Haha He's from Clarksville right?

Maybe it was a bad decision to not go for 2. I agree.

I would like to understand what happened on 5 fourth down plays that netted Florida 123 yards and 1 touchdown. I was at the game and that 63 yard TD looked like a total breakdown of the DB's.

But one other thing that is obvious to me is this: Dobbs is not an accurate passer. I think the staff knows this and are reluctant to let him throw.

it was a BAd decision, no maybe to it.

You know what I find amazing in this game is that the longest pass TD was thrown by a converted QB that is now playing WR. Hell he made a better throw than I have seen all year. This is just one of many funny observations that I have noticed this season so far. It looks like all of the Michigan fans were right about the Deboring offense. I do believe that this one did fall on the coaches and if CBJ wants to win he needs to keep his foot on the gas when we have the lead because this is the SEC and all of these teams can beat you on any given Saturday if you don't stomp on their throat this is why Les Miles and Nick Saban win they keep pressing like they are behind and never give you a chance to breath.
