CBS Sports: Butch Jones is in trouble

I love coming on here and reading all the nonsense. 8-4 is a really good season no matter how you slice it. To think otherwise is just childish.

But keep it coming guys. I need the laugh. I just wish I would go up against many of you in business. I would be filthy rich off your knee jerk absurdity. Awesome.

Watch out guys, Oysters Rockefeller over here has some business savvy.

Debord was brought in specifically to not question Butch who really is the one running the offense (because they have the same offense going back to Central Michigan days). That's the problem - Butch would have to agree to turn that over to someone who would run completely different system and I don't think his ego would ever allow that. Otherwise he would have just kept Chaney (who by the way was great and should have been kept along with Pittman).

I've already posted basically the same thing, yet I see all this posting putting the blame on the fall guy, (Debord). The offense looked better than fair against UF until the ignorant lay down on next to last possession. Maybe we get new OC early at end of season. Until then I expect the passing game, especially the quick, over the middle type of plays to open up. Our opponents are keying in on our predictability and Tim Priest stated during the game ,(UF), that florida D was adjusting to shut down Dobb's running and that ought to open up some passing lanes. Immediately after the OU game Dobb's stated,"we need to learn to adjust on the fly." Therefore the truth is exposed, we are slow, scared, attempt to run the clock, etc....all these factor oppose the maxim #7, " carry the fight and keep it there for 60 minutes. Debord was the best hire because of familiarity with the current system and the fact that coach Jake left late and many potential, innovative, OC's had already taken other jobs.If UT does not open up the passing game with all this talent, what a waste. Considering the ability of our O-line simply means that our QB's need to roll out of the pocket and our backs need to pick up blocks. It appears that trying to pass from the pocket is a mistake this year and adjustments are necessary. Jennings threw the lateral back to Dobb's Saturday and resulted in TD. I'd like to say we're doing the best we can with what we got but it's not true. The staff chose to attempt 3 runs on the next to last possession to take time off the clock and put the load on the defense which was playing well enough to win with one major exception,#13. This DB fell down on OU's last scoring drive pass. This Saturday against UF he was burnt for 2 TD's and another 4th down pass play after UF decided to go for it instead of kicking a field goal. The problem here is that we have safeties behind this corner that ought to know that opposing teams are going to go right at him every play he's in the game and coaches surely ought to know this. The undeniable truth is on film for the world to see. I'd call it a coaching breakdown that is unacceptable. I see 21 points given to our opponents resulting in 2 losses. Enough said this post but i'll post the same thing likely 3-4 more times before the hawgs come in. GBO

It will be a measuring stick as to where CBJ stands with the players.

Where do you think he stands? Gonna say lost a fee so far. Plus he hasn't had to deal with the negative publicity so will be interesting to see how he handles it. I think he goes more conservative.

I'm old so I don't really no how kids think now days.....but I played for a coach who was prone to making dumb mistakes and cost us a couple of games but we loved him like he was one of us. We would have run threw walls for him. For us to say that CBJ will lose the kids based on his mistakes may not be accurate. The kids may feel he's taking heat from us because they didn't execute. They may feel they let him down. That's how we felt. There's just no way to know till we see it on the field.

Our team isn't developing. Our team is surviving on god given ability and we almost won these games despite the coaching.

Our defense is developing with the exception of the corner I've already mentioned. Unfortunately offense is another story.

I feel the players will back him because they are loyal and realize the errors that will be corrected. We're not that far away from finding out.

Welp... pretty certain house money will be on Bama and Ga... if he can get to 8-4 then he is in good shape going into next season. 2016 has to be the break out year.

Coach 24 couldn't break-out of a paper bag. He will not have a break out year in 2016 - recruiting can't compensate for Coach 24's horrific in game decision making. At best he is an 8-4 coach in this league. I would not be surprised if we are 2 and 5 after the next three games. The man has snatched defeat out of the jaws of victory twice this year!

CBS is not the only media outlet saying Jones is in trouble. And they're all correct.

Jones isn't going anywhere this year, or next. His contract and the Dooley buyout all but guarantee that. But two things that should see some action tomorrow are (1) Dormady at QB, and (2) Harts' Rolodex. It's a safe bet that one of those will happen for sure.

At this point, DeBord is a liability, and Jancek is close behind. If Jones wants to stay at UT, he has to win. Soon. If he's going to win, he needs aggressive coordinators on both sides of the ball. It's decision time for Butch Jones. Get it wrong, and you're next, Chuckles...

Jones is a smart salesman. That's part of what it takes to be a great recruiter, which he is. But "Brick by Brick" and "The Generals' Maxims" has to be more than hype in order to work. Right now, Butch is all thunder and no lightning. That won't last much longer, with either the fans, or more importantly the recruits.

Mark Richt hit a homerun with his OC hire, and his DC hire is likewise very solid. Jones missed badly on one, and possibly both of his selections.

In basketball parlance, those may end up being the very "bricks" that shatter the Butch Jones legacy.

Go Vols.

Players cant fix the horrific coaching decisions that have cost the Vols two ball games.

Barring wins over Georgia and Bama, I say this is his final stand

He could easily lose to Missouri and we play Kentucky in Lexington

This could go south very fast for our Band Leader

If so it will put us in an even deeper hole than we are in. Tennessee has not been a factor nationally for 7 years now. If we fire Butch this year we might double or even triple that number. I say barring a losing season he has another year yet.

That doesn't mean I'm not still expecting 8-4. I am.

As much as I don't believe Butch is the long term answer, he isn't nor should we fire him.

Want to ensure we get another CUSA level coach? Fire a guy who has improved his record over the course of his first 3 seasons AND brought in multiple top 10 classes. And as much as everyone says "we can afford it", no we can't. We are still paying Dooley.

Give Butch at least 4 years. If, after next season, we still are losing games like this, still always losing to Bama, Georgia, and Florida, then can him. By then this team will be stacked with talent and they will see we gave Butch time to turn it around. Big time coaches will want this job.

Maybe he is an 8-4 coach in the SEC, but one that recruits lights out. Maybe we stay there a couple years, he moves on, and another guy takes over a team stocked with top flight talent.

I am okay with that. Much better than 5-7 with Doofus blowing EVERY game, and usually by double digits, and not even making a minor bowl.

If the worst Jones does is 8-4 from this point on, then IMO he did his job and we can find someone else to take the next step.

When a program is as beat down as our was, it doesn't always go straight to the playoffs. Maybe there has to be a guy to just get us competent. I'll take a couple seasons of competent over what we had before.

2002 is the last time we were relevant

That is just plain stupid.

No its not

He will peak at 8 wins. He's not out coaching anyone. He just lost to a first year coach with a bad offense

He's 1-1 against Vandy
He's 0-9 against Missouri, Georgia, Bama, and Florida
He's 2-0 against Kentucky
He's 2-0 against SC

He's not HOF coaching material
