CBS Sports: Butch Jones is in trouble

Hes going to start losing recruits in a hurry. Recievers should transfer since they arent being utilized and have no chance at their NFL dreams. Could get real ugly, real quick.

I wonder what he tells these above average receivers while he's recruiting them?

Boom. And that is the difference between fans who are upset today and the ones who are placing some hope in "supporting the team" and "just give him more time". Losing is one thing, how we are losing is a bigger issue and red flag.

The writing is on the wall and a very large % of vol nation is more than aware where fault lies. We have no choice but to be patient. These players bought into this and they deserve to see performance from their coaches. CBJ has talked the talk. Past time to walk the walk. GBO, hawg slaughtering week !

We are not getting anymore top recruiting classes until something drastically changes. Top tier kids are not coming here. The instant win/gratification generation of recruits are watching this debacle and are walking away. I will be shocked if we keep JG or any other top tier talent.

How shocked ? 440 volts worth ? What if no one is around to pound your chest to get you fibulating ? I think the big orange destroys the hawgs this week and this team gets on track to becoming what it potentially can be. CBJ deserves all the negativity being directed towards him and even he uses the word resilience. At least give him and these players time to develop and correct these mistakes. It's critical that we be supportive instead of negative.

Let me preface this by saying, my Dad took me to my 1st game in 1957. I'm an alum; moderate donor and have had season tickets for over 30 years. I've seen a lot of ups and downs over the years and I'm still here.

I was asked by some of my fellow Vols for my preseason assessment of the 2015 VOLS and I said that I thought this team could take the SEC East, IF:
(1) we had no major injuries;
(2) the players had no major off-the-field issues; and
(3) the coaches could avoid major in-game brain farts.

I was blasted by some of those friends for my point of view and chastised for being “negative”.

So far in 2015, CBJ and his staff have farted often and loudly in 2 of our 4 games. Some might even say they have shat their britches. Maybe there is a reason Georgia fired Jancek and Martinez and DeBord has not held a meaningful college coaching gig, since 1997-98?

It was reported last night, that teams with 13+ point lead going into 4th quarter are 188 – 3 (Since updated to 211 – 3). Our CBJ-coached team has 2 of those 3 losses. The other team is New Mexico State.

“Reality is a *****!”, or maybe I should say “Reality is a bUTch!”

Go VOLS!! I’ll be at the Arkansas game with my 3 grandsons.

It's not over until the fat lady sings.
He gets 8 and he's done a good job.
Every game is now critical.
ARK even bigger game for him to win.
We'll see next week if he has learned from the past two weeks.

He has been a head coach for nine seasons. I think that's enough time for him to develop.

This will happen and could be devastating.

A prominent coach wouldn't touch the job with the proverbial 10 foot pole if the administration is gullible enough to fall for the torch and pitchfork routine of VN. After all, that is what started this 8 year old fiasco.
What do you expect us to do? Continue on the current path?

I've stated before that he could recruit all the top five classes, build depth that would rival the patriots roster and it won't matter if he keeps coaching and managing games the way he has so far. Even the most ardent CBJ supporters have to admit that. It's not a myth or something made up by CBJ detractors, it's a fact proven on game day. So please explain to me why you expect him to all of a sudden change his physolophy and how he manages a game on game day.

No we are no longer a top program. But we do have tradition and a great history. That can never be taken. We can get there again.

Damn right we can. This team has raw talent that's just beginning to show. Phillips,#5, #34, on and on, are fast and getting to the ball. Remember neither of them played this spring although enrolled. It's only going to get better on rocky top. CBJ is putting these players in major games already and we see the price of their mistakes. That's how we learn and grow and these young players are developing. I see one of the best defenses in the country forming.

So what do you call the failure to allow a program in transition to mature? Are you ready to start over? After all, I have been advised by several contributors that UT talent is ready to jump ship at seasons end, right? Now, who is naive?

Really it is what it is. We as a team, are bringing in good talent that needs to be developed. It's a process, not an overnite, snap your finger miracle. A few receivers may leave if we don't start throwing. Need to concentrate on O-line getting deeper and better.

Recent history doesn't support your opinion.

You're delusional if you think "time passed" was the reason we haven't attracted a prominent coach.

Kiffin could've had his pick of schools, so like him or not, he was name hire at the time and who we targeted from an early stage.

Dooley was a result of coaches not wanting to leave their employers 2 weeks before NSD and inheriting a weak roster. Kiffin said that 2010, not 2009, would be the trying year because of what was going to be lost.

Butch was a result of going to the boardroom with a weak offer and expecting anyone worth their weight to fall for our cheapness.

He is what he is. A terrible game day coach. He has had 3 chances Florida last year, Oklahoma and Florida this year. 3 strikes your out.

Barring wins over Georgia and Bama, I say this is his final stand

He could easily lose to Missouri and we play Kentucky in Lexington

This could go south very fast for our Band Leader

You've gone full retard. While I agree there were some stupid coaching decisions, our obvious problem is depth. We can play with any team in the country for 3 qtrs. and then we are simply gassed. Dooley and his passive recruiting killed our depth. I've said since CBJ took the job that 2016 is our year. If he doesn't punch a ticket to Atlanta in 2016, he needs to be put to the fire.

If I remember correctly it was Florida's player's getting gassed.

Ah, well, in a word, YES! Actually you/we have no choice. Jones has another year and he can prove his system works or not. Jones will readily admit that he has to produce but most sensible folks said long ago and continue to say we aren't there yet. Think of it this way, if we reboot now, you can begin making plans for the possibility of 2019 being a winning season, maybe. Stay the course as many predicted and maybe you see results next year.

Otherwise, call my wife's, hairdressers, garbage pickup guys, mother in law, who goes to Church with the Gruden's once upon a time auto mechanic and see what he says about......soon?

Our team isn't developing. Our team is surviving on god given ability and we almost won these games despite the coaching.

Dooley should have got 3 more years.

Prominent coaches understand its about Ws and Ls, not slogans and catch lines.

For anyone who follows soccer: at this point, Butch is the college football equivalent of AVB.
