CBS Sports: Butch Jones is in trouble

Man I have been frustrated since 2004. I rarely come to this site anymore. Hypothetically if he could go 9-4 then yea he deserves opportunity. But the problem is he isn't. He recruits great and that hid a lot of his poor coaching abilities and management because we were young and rebuilding, which he deserved time for. But his true colors are coming out I am afraid. I am tired of this ****. Hell most of us don't live in Knoxville and have to deal with other fans constantly. Tired. Do what Michigan did. Grow balls and hire a big time coach. No reason to think they won't come here.

I started following Tennessee in 1995 after the UF comeback win (62-37) as a kid. I was spoiled from the beginning.

It stinks right now, but I'm still optimistic.

The garbage that was coming out in support of Butch before the season was way premature.

Similarly, the decision to give Butch a raise this past off season was about as short-sighted a decision as you'll ever see.

Truth. It's like when Memphis gave that clown Pastner a big raise and extension. Now it's killing them. I'm afraid we've done exactly the same thing.

A prominent coach wouldn't touch the job with the proverbial 10 foot pole if the administration is gullible enough to fall for the torch and pitchfork routine of VN. After all, that is what started this 8 year old fiasco.

Bad administrative decisions and lack of interest in athletics in general by the current administration is why we are in our current sad state.

You can forget getting any P5, we are no longer one of the great college football programs, as much as I hate to say it. We are stuck with what he have.

I was ending my educational career a year later. I was there during the Majors/Fulmer fiasco. UT has never handled coaches and their departures well. And I am not talking only about football.

No we are no longer a top program. But we do have tradition and a great history. That can never be taken. We can get there again.

Kyle Willingham would look great in Tennessee orange..

I said this when we hired Derek Dooley. Honestly, I think Whittingham is happy at Utah. Its a culture thing, as he is part of the church of LDS. Would be a difficult pull IMO.

What lack of interest by the administration? Tennessee athletics is the first thing incoming freshman are exposed to during orientation. I have 2 kids at UT and UT athletics is one of the biggest things emphasized.

The bigger problem is having incompetent athletic directors and board members who have made horrific hires. Butch makes $3.6 million/year so money is not the biggest problem.

Yes, we caused the USC job to open up and for Kiffin to end up on their short list. Yes, we're responsible for the hiring of Dooley and actually thinking it would work out. The AD is actually ran by a collection of anonymous posters on VN with names such as Wylo, KBVol, AKMan and BGV. We'll get it corrected.

Butch Jones made his own bed, how long do poor old Vol fans have to sleep in that very same bed with Jones?
I refuse to accept this mediocrity or less at Tennessee, you can accept it but I refuse!

I love coming on here and reading all the nonsense. 8-4 is a really good season no matter how you slice it. To think otherwise is just childish.

But keep it coming guys. I need the laugh. I just wish I would go up against many of you in business. I would be filthy rich off your knee jerk absurdity. Awesome.

Go talk to LSU and tell me if 8-4 is a "good" season. I would argue that 8-4 seems good to Tennessee fans because we've been bad for so long. This is what chronic losing does to a fanbase.

Bo Pelinni agrees. Too bad he's at Youngstown State now.

I see. With this in mind, would you care to discuss potential replacements for the 2016 season?

I would like to get an idea of potential HC candidates to expect after our 9-4 crumble.

I'm hearing Chip Kelly, Jon Gruden, Peyton Manning, Phil Fulmer so far.
I can't believe you think we still have a snowballs chance in hell to go 8-4.
