CBS Sports: Butch Jones is in trouble

I started to ask him if he watched high school ball Friday night. my kids team beat his high school team for the #1 spot in the state rankings. But after the rest of the weekend I was afraid he might track me down and beat the crap out of me.
Lulz

Maybe you could out run him Max!

Butch's inadequate decision making lost us the game. What frustrates me more than anything, though, is his inability to own up to what was essentially his loss and his loss alone. Instead, he talks about a how stupid chart ,that needs to be trashed ASAP btw, said going for one rather than two was a good idea. I'm not saying fire the guy by any means. It would set us too far back at this point. That doesn't mean some that he needs to keep using a losing strategy, though. In order for us to save what could still be a fun season, it is absolutely necessary that CBJ learn to keep the foot on the opponent's throat when we get a lead. Otherwise, we're going to continue to see more of the same, heartbreaking loss after heartbreaking loss. That's reality, not negativity.

We are not getting anymore top recruiting classes until something drastically changes. Top tier kids are not coming here. The instant win/gratification generation of recruits are watching this debacle and are walking away. I will be shocked if we keep JG or any other top tier talent.

I hope we get a top 5 in spite of your comment

A prominent coach wouldn't touch the job with the proverbial 10 foot pole if the administration is gullible enough to fall for the torch and pitchfork routine of VN. After all, that is what started this 8 year old fiasco.

Not as I see it... VN or the 101,000 people in neyland on Saturday doesn't have anything to do with it. This fiasco and associated pitchforks started with with the approx 1500 people that send substantial money to Dave and will most likely go the same route for CBJ. I believe that there would be a much easier time getting a prominent coach now than when we tried and failed with no talent in the cupboard 3 years ago.

Ill swallow my pride. "It's Time" to bring Kiffin back.

OH PLEASE NO!!! please i'm begging you please hire me as coach before you think about hiring Kiffin back. i know a real good elementary coach he hasn't won a game this year but hey anything other then Kiffin. he will get a recruiting violation and go lay in the sand again

You know what I find amazing in this game is that the longest pass TD was thrown by a converted QB that is now playing WR. Hell he made a better throw than I have seen all year. This is just one of many funny observations that I have noticed this season so far. It looks like all of the Michigan fans were right about the Deboring offense. I do believe that this one did fall on the coaches and if CBJ wants to win he needs to keep his foot on the gas when we have the lead because this is the SEC and all of these teams can beat you on any given Saturday if you don't stomp on their throat this is why Les Miles and Nick Saban win they keep pressing like they are behind and never give you a chance to breath.

Debord's offense scored 27 points on the road against arguably the best defense in the SEC, which included almost 250 yds on the ground. And I'm not sure how you really say the coaches let their foot off of the gas. When UF scored to make it 20-14 in the 4th qtr, the offense drove for another score. After UF scored again to cut the lead to 27-21, I understood the decision to be conservative and run the ball late in the game. At this stage of development, the OL is much better at run blocking than pass protection, and had been opening some nice holes all game long, and Dobbs had gotten trouble some in the pocket. It made sense to protect the ball and if you don't get a first down to kick the ball and let the defense win the game. Unfortunately, the defense, which played very well over all the entire game, could not get off the field on 4th downs in those last couple of drives.

Im pretty sure what started this whole 8 year old fiasco was super sh!tty coaching and losing games we had no business losing.

to sum up your post, the were playing not to lose. Because our coach is afraid to actually go out and play hard to guarantee a win.

Not saying it's time for a change but it's obvious from our last two searches that it takes two things to get a top level coach. First, money and lots of it. We haven't had the resources to compete economically lately and I don't know if that's changed. Second, a roster that someone can win with. I think we have the latter at this point.

The serious underlying problem with Butch is that he doesn't believe in himself and it shows in several ways. He can't answer a question straight up without relying on the "safety net" of his coach speak sayings. He can't make an in-game decision without relying on the "safety net" of his chart. He can't hire an O Coordinator without relying on the "safety net" of hiring his previous mentor. He can call a few "risky" plays when he's behind because he has nothing to lose, in his mind, but once he gets a lead or feels "invested in victory" as he likes to say, he plays to "protect his hand." He doesn't have the belief in himself or the courage to take the risk in order to seize the opportunities provided to him. This is scary because we can now see how this effects his ability to take responibility for the bottom line. He blames the chart or youth/immaturity, something, anything else besides himself. He feeds the delusion that if he sticks to said chart or his coach speak "fundementals," he can do no wrong. The fact that he can shamelessly and righteously defend himself claiming a chart told him to make a decision is scary. That's not a leader mentality. IMO Butch has "put his identity on video" and until he decides to man-up and take responsibility for the team and stop reaching for excuses, then we will be seeing more of the same no matter if he gets enough talent to get to consistent 9,10,11 win seasons. That being said I love Butch as a person and am thankful for what he HAS done thus far and I hope he can bring us many championships, I just don't expect him to at this point.

So you think we should have been trying to throw the ball deep in our own territory late in the game nursing a 6-pt lead. Right. And if Dobbs had been sacked and fumbled, or been picked off deep in our territory, I'm sure you would have lead the charge to blame the coaches for not protecting the ball late in the game for a lead. Of that I have little doubt.

And dobbs and Hurd were unbelievable in individual play for at least 150 of those yards. Hurd was literally running over safeties with 2 linebackers on his back behind the line of scrimmage numerous times for a 5 yard gain. Dobbs spun, stiff armed and ran like the wind and again a run without blockers and made 3 miss before he got over the line of scrimmage. The coaches need to watch that film and be inspired by those 2.
