After McDowell and Kirkland we don't really know what we have. Sapp looked pretty good at times last year. IDK what happened to Bates. He was a top 100 recruit on all the services. There are several unknowns too. Don't really expect much from the freshmen, but we'll see.
If you're talking about getting most talent and speed on the field at one time, I'd look at sliding Todd Kelly down to OLB and put Warrior in his spot. Shoop pretty much said OLB position is a glorified DB position now because of spread offenses.I had/have strong doubts about the LB's. After or during spring, Shoop came out and said he like his LB's and depth at the position. I think there's a lot of talent on the DL if they stay healthy. I think there are some quality players in the secondary if Warren is as much of an upgrade as I think he is. But besides DKjr and McDowell, UT doesn't really have a LB that has proven they can play in the SEC... and both of them have been injury prone.
i think were ok on the back end. there are still a lot of talent to replace and talented players recovering from bad injuries in the front 7. if there is a problem it will show up here. the LB are also slow and we are thin there too.

Go watch a replay of the Florida game of him running stride for stride with Scarlett out of the backfield and making a beautiful defensive play to swat the ball away....
It's impossible for coaches to teach and train players that are hurt so much.
When players are hurt and can't train and learn consistently then they just can't work hard to take the next step upwards.
It's not always the coaches fault because nobody can control injuries and forced surgeries.
Hopefully the Rock has a magic potion that will keep all our players healthy for a change.
That alone would be a huge step in the right direction.
VFL...GBO!!!
that play was grate but the back had to slow down . i like Jumper he should have got a game ball for FL. but he is still slow for a SEC line backer.Go watch a replay of the Florida game of him running stride for stride with Scarlett out of the backfield and making a beautiful defensive play to swat the ball away....
Bates has played lights out on special teams. i do not understand why he is not playing moreEveryone is talking about slow LB's. I doubt that Bates and Berry are slow. I'm sure they can beat most in a 40 yard dash, but unfortunately foot speed isn't the only thing needed to be an SEC football player. But, coach is saying Bates is doing better, maybe he'll play this year.

I think jumper started to play really well this season
our play in this area over the past 2 years has been more troublesome. Butch laid a egg with his last experiment . our million bucks DC was a dud, lets hope this works out.
grate point, but it takes 2 years for that to full work its way through the program. Shoop for me is the big question mark. if he is as good as advertised , why did he not know the players on his side of the ball were out of shape. how did this big problem get over looked. i think Jones has made all the moves he can to fix the problem. what i am worried about is Shoop my be the problem.I've got two words for you. Strength Coach. We have one now and he is a good one. It also doesn't hurt that this will be this unIt's second year under Shoop.
The answer will be a resounding YES in my opinion. i
