Bye bye Butch - Purdue bound (message board rumor)

I can win a race when I jump in the kids pool too. But when I jump in a race with Phelps I'm toast. Same thing happens to Butch in the MAC and then the SEC. Thought everyone knew that.

You wouldn't win a race in the kids pool easily if you were a kid. My point is logic says that he will eventually will be successful here. It's not crazy to believe that.

My understanding is that in addition to what you posted Shoop also had to keep Jancek's terminology, much the way Debord had to do so the players would have it easier...maybe I'm off base on that, I'm sure I'll be corrected if so. :p

Yes that's correct. He had to adapt the two philosophies together. Now how do you do that when you have two different ideas

Heather Harrington acknowledged this week that she didn't believe 100 percent he would be back and she didn't think it had to do with being fired. I know most don't like her, but she doesn't normally speculate that stuff that I can remember

When u teach someone you can't throw everything at them at once. The assistants have to teach new techniques, new angles, no positions. All this in 7-8 months all while you been doing something complete opposite for many years

Fulmer didn't like getting out of a comfort zone. You have to adapt to the game, it doesn't adapt to you.

My opinion based on my own experience is that is a very difficult thing to do, especially if the guys you're asking to buy into the new philosophy, do not.

Even if they do, it's still difficult and it's about practice reps and when the first and second teamers get injured...that becomes a very hard boat to row.

And that's why second year is always a big leap from the first.

Shoop is a great defensive coordinator. Unfortunately some people are to micromanaging, and then couple that with not having your own guys and having to teach assistants you don't know your philosophy all while your star players are out and you have no defensive tackles.... Ya no one would succeed.

So coaching football must be different than what happens with other jobs. Most who make lateral moves don't get to take their own folks with them and are required to succeed even when working with new bosses, peers and direct reports.

Bottom line he took the job knowing full well his folks were not coming with him and that he was going to have to work with new assistants. If he wasn't comfortable with that he should have said "no" to the job.

So never should've hired Shoop then because this was unavoidable?

Heard from a reliable source, CBJ has informed some recruits and players and members of the university he is moving on to Purdue. Wait till all the coach speak rips this fanbase to shreds. We are finished .

Makes sense. Butch would be the obvious choice to continue the long tradition of gridiron disappointment that is the hallmark of Purdue Football.

Plus, "Boilermaker" and "Bricklayer". It almost rhymes.

Not to mention the new words and catch phrases that the Purdue faithful would learn. And hear...over, and over, and over, and over again.

Clearly, this was meant to be.

Go Vols.

So...Butch actually came to UT from the Big East after he was in the MAC. So many of you seem to ignore that. His best record there was 9-3, which we almost achieved this year, and we hired him anyway.

His last year in the MAC he was 11-2 including the bowl game, which was actually also achievable this year.

Bringing up MAC constantly is completely irrelevant. Urban Meyer used to coach in the MAC also. :eek:lol:
