You're right, Weezer. The coach is not the team.
But he is a part of the team. And at the end of the day, the team is nothing but people. Roughly 120 or 130 of them, including all the scholarship players, all the walk ons, and all the coaching staff.
And here's the pernicious risk we face when we refuse to support a part of that team: it can grow to include a LOT of the team. It's an attitude, a decision not to show loyalty to our lads (including coaches), and once it takes root, it can grow until we're not supporting the team at all.
Consider this:
we hate Butch, want him replaced.
we hate Shoop, want him gone.
we hate Jumper, want him benched.
we hate Martin, think he's a terrible corner back.
we hate Thigpen, don't trust him to develop LBs.
we hate Guarantano, think he's a spoiled brat.
we hate ...
Once you open that door, that Pandora's box, it's real hard to shut it again.
Until you're not supporting the team at all. You're trying to rip it to pieces.
Loyalty is a virtue. It costs nothing to say, "he's our coach until he isn't; as long as he is, I've got his back." And it means a lot to the Team to know their fans are behind them, through thick and thin.
The fans on this board are going the opposite direction lately.
Good post but Lately? Lol
SOS with the same posters. Although some have alternate accounts now to load up a thread.
Only 1 current SEC coach has - Won Power & Group of 5 Conference Championships Cent. Michigan (2007, 2009) Cincinnati (2011) our very own Butch Jones.
Only 2 SEC coaches have won a Power 5 conference championship - Saban and Jones (Cincy)

I don't think they changed anything from GT to ISU. Short week. Same scheme we run against GT that we never use.
He gets asked a dumba$$ question he gives them a dumba$$ answer and they just eat it up on here.
I enjoy the meltdowns over nothing. Lol
With players that type of loyalty is a virtue. As fans, literally the people that pay the bills, it's just silly.
Those players are loyal to Butch because he recruited them, nurtured a personal relationship with them, and brought them from their home to Knoxville....to nurture, coach, and look after the well-being of each one for 3-5 years.
Those of us who attended UT, spend thousands on apparel, tickets, and travel every year deserve to take a critical look at the PROGRAM we support. Unless a coach is an alumni like Fulmer, he's largely a mercenary. He's paid for results, and without results changes are likely made. They are mercenaries to the extent that they frequently LEAVE for higher paying jobs. It's a business, and coaches are no different the CEO's. Good ones get paid well and stay a long time. Lackluster coaches get questioned on message boards and talk radio shows, and eventually are shown the door.
All of that is separate from supporting a group of young, amateur, student athletes that compete for the favor and at the whim of the mercenary coach. They deserve our admiration and support for just being here, putting on the Orange, and sacrificing their bodies for our entertainment. The reason they are the team, the program, is that they'll be here after any particular coach is fired, or moves on. They are the constant.
Umm JP?
It was when Cincy was in the Big East (2011). It was considered a automatic qualifier (Power 5 today). Sooo, technically yea.

eace2:
Your definition of "loyalty" seems to revolve around being indebted to someone, owing them gratitude for something they've done on your behalf. That's not loyalty at all; that's thankfulness.
Loyalty doesn't come as payback, it's not predicated on favors.
Perhaps you just don't understand true loyalty, Boro.
I think he feels all the good he has done in rebuilding this program....goes disrespected and mocked. Nothing he does will ever be good enough here for this fan base. He could run the gauntlet this season to win the East Division and this fan base would hate on him for not doing it their way. He knows the reason why they've played off the line these 2 games. When he explains himself to the media he is ripped apart....so he knew either way it was coming. I bet he feels like Trump....everyone is constantly out to get him.
That's probably it. Just ignore the rest, like I'm sure you did.
But thanks for the personal shot. Classy, but not unexpected.
