Butch says our D-line has "always" lined up a yard back. Is immediately proven wrong

I’d go along with top 15. I think many would argue higher. Maybe I’m wrong.

There is room for disagreement on that. I think at the end of Fulmer's tenure it was slightly higher....the bloom is definitely off the rose right now.

Butch has proven the recruiting disadvantage to he a fallacy...so did Phil.

The CBS poll of the SEC seems fairly accurate, give or take a spot. Personally I think we should be a perennial top-5 in the SEC.

Not sure Butch has proved anything about a recruiting disadvantage but I think the instate talent is getting better so that helps.

It's a great job, but I don't it carries quite the weight nationally that fans think it does.

I agree. A large part of this fanbase has never looked at it from 10,000 ft. up. It's a great job but not on the level as some others.

By that I mean he's proven, again, that you can recruit well to Tennessee. I can't gripe about his recruiting at all....development and retention maybe, but not the recruiting.

The instate talent is better - a lot of that seems to be related to the growth in the middle of the state. However a lot of that is the result of families that move into the state that have loyalties to other schools.

Do you think Vandy and SC will pass Butch up in the SEC east?
That's indeed a scary thought, that it could come true, no?

A little early to tell this year, but certainly possible in my opinion. They both certainly look like something we should be worried about this year.

That's the accepted narrative of many in the pro-Butch faction. He's the only one that would take this horrible job....we should be grateful.

I just find it hard to believe with everything involved in the program. I don't think a couple of bad hires has changed people's view on it all that much. Money talks, you get what you pay for.

I think if you look at the programs full body of work, a few bad years here and there shouldn't change the perspective. Jmo

If you ask me, especially because of the long view--as stated by fans here--hire-ability at UT suffered tremendously due to the down years. Not many coaches wanted it. You have a program that has had very recent success, tremendous historical success, but is currently decimated and needs a rebuild.

Not many coaches want to put their careers and reputations on the line to rebuild that against the false expectations of fans, and probably false perception in the public.

In my opinion, the things you list that make UT a good job made it a very hard sell to potential coaches.
