GAVol, That's a fact, not my opinion that both would play. Perhaps you missed the pregame announcement that both would play? The TV announcer lady brought it up in pregame. Apparently, the student section seemed to know that Peterman would play briefly against Bama, followed by Dobbs for the balance.
I do think the sudden flurry of scores in the second quarter kept things interesting. Dobbs surprised Bama with his strong running threat and put up a touchdown and field goal by half. It took Bama a while to adjust to Dobbs mobility. It took major pressure off the O-line. Why mess with it?
Honestly, Butch knows Peterman doesn't merely need 'snaps under his belt' as much as he needs a chance to settle down and get in the flow of a game. He needs to establish some rhythm, chemistry and get into the flow. The problem has been that Peterman keeps 'getting snaps' against ferocious defenses that blitz him incessantly. He is getting smashed two seconds after the ball is snapped and has never played any length of time in a reasonably winnable situation.
Trust me, Butch understands the predicament. He knows Peterman is the best raw passer in the stable, but may never get a chance to develop. He knows Dobbs has the mobility, is game ready and represents a formidable running threat enough to win games now. He is also expressing his concern over Dobbs longstanding problem with erratic throwing (inconsistency) that might never be corrected.
Spare me the BS excuses Beecher. The fact is Peterman won the number 2 spot. A mountain of evidence supports that fact. All the evidence supports that fact. If you want to lie to yourself and write your own narrative, that's your prerogative, but I'm not an idiot. I follow the evidence - evidence you consistently ignore and never answered.
Don't pretend your rank speculations about recent coaching decisions are evidence that overturn well-established facts, while the solid facts and evidence I laid out are 'speculation'. You only indict yourself and lose my respect.
No, Peterman firmly won the two spot, Dobbs at three, but with the benefit of the number one spot in result of a season ending injury to Worley.
No, I'm just a guy who watched the preseason QB competition for hours where Peterman was clearly the most skilled passer in the stable.
I watched hours of passing drills to form my opinion. You formed your superficial opinion based on the few short minutes of a rookie being thrown to wolves. You have no basis for your superficial judgement. Your opinion is ill-informed and knee-jerk. Mine is informed. See the difference Spanky? Good.
Hey! Where'd everybody go? We just can't let this thread die.....
Ok, Peterman was having a really bad game BEFORE he injured his THUMB vs Florida..... and American Pig absolutely sucks. There.....discuss.....

:lolabove::lolabove: So.... they scripted to have "#3" play all but the first two series of the game no matter how well "#2" did? That's cute. Ignorant, but cute. Peterman didn't fail at Bama. The gametime was scripted and announced before the game. Apparently you failed to pay attention (see the pattern?).
Your objection failed Mikey. Now pick a number and get in line.
Not taking up for pig, he can fight his own battles. But, your simply wrong about Peterman not winning the backup or #2 spot. He most certainly did. Not just my opinion, it has been reported as such many times from the media. I just posted part of an article by Ryan Callahan from 24/7 sports that pretty much sums it up.
Funny....back then, you claimed that certain players where starters AS OF FACT, based on the limited media sessions given throughout Fall Camp. Could you have PROVED it then?
You repeat this mantra like some brainwashed cult follower.... and yet you never get around to actually pointing to a single fact that actually supports the notion that Peterman "won" the #2 spot.Spare me the BS excuses Beecher. The fact is Peterman won the number 2 spot. A mountain of evidence supports that fact. All the evidence supports that fact.
All you have done is speculate. Irrationally at that. You say that since Peterman was named back up that he must have "won" that role... in spite of the clearly proven "fact" that Dobbs was not a consideration for the #2 job as long as Worley was healthy. They wanted to RS him. That has been proven multiple times. He was no longer in the pool of people that could be considered for #2 once that decision was made.Don't pretend your rank speculations about recent coaching decisions are evidence that overturn well-established facts, while the solid facts and evidence I laid out are 'speculation'. I'm not debating the present with anyone. It speaks for its self. The statement was made that Peterman did not win the backup job, which is simply not true. The very fact that he (Peterman) was listed as the #2 behind Worley makes that a fact. Not conjecture, but fact. All rationalization in the world will not change that as "fact". By all accounts Peterman did in fact outperform Dobbs in camp.you may be right but you still have to take pre-season with a grain a salt any football follower, coach, player, knows this and its so hard for some people to take anything with a grain of salt. Pre-season stats, playing time, depth chart, etc. does not matter. Every QB comes out of preseason with some kind've grade. In reference to your post where you said Dobbs had several days that he did not appear to look like an SEC QB, I'm sure thats true but Im sure you could more than likely say Worley and Peterman also had some days where they struggled. Thats why you practice.
The reason everyones argueing with PIG about the past, is now that the present does not necessarily line up with what we were told. Not saying that what we were told in the reports wasnt true but im implying that the pre-season reports shouldve been taken with a grain of salt.
whn the lights come on and its football time in Tennessee anything can happen. Dobbs has now proved the present and grown into a better QB. People believe in him more than they ever have, and thats why the arguement with PIG is a wildfire. Why get caught up on facts that are not important. Even he stated Dobbs should be the starter. So why argue?:clapping:
As a big fan of both I am trying to figure out their relationship. After the last two outings Dobbs seems to be a prime time player, but listening to Butch his praise is very limited. OK I assume I know what butch is doing but without Dobbs cool demeanor and the team's belief in Josh no way we have a QB on this team other than him who could have gotten that done. Tough love but really? How bout some praise?
