You're a funny guy. I appreciate your humor...seriosuly I do. i think you are hearing me incorrectly. Maybe this will help.
First I never said Shannon is a racist...I am speaking particularly to the terms people on this board are using to describe BB.
When a black player makes a great play he is athletic, a white player makes the same play he is smart and a hard-worker. When a white player gets help it is a mentor, when a black player doe sthe same thing, some on this sight are calling him a pimp. When a white player is interviewed and makes sense we say that guy is smart, when a black player does the same thing, we call him articulate. That is all i am saying...we need to be sure that we don't make any accusations about BB unless we know him. Living in Wichita I hear amazing things about the kid and his family. I am only referring to those in the crowd who have made statements that are not true about BB. so...
on a side note...this morning the news here in wichita is that shannon is pulling the scholarship because he is trying to save face. If BB wants to go to Miami...shannon will take him in a heartbeat. They feel like he isn't coming there and are trying to keep their image intact.
He would be wise to be more cautious selecting his words considering these guys he is dogging may be his future teammates. I don't care when it was said or why it was said, you don't dog your teammates in the press like that. I never thought the rumors about him being all about himself were true until I read that. And he dogged Miami's offense too. His recruiting adviser needs to better advise him on WTF to say and what not to.
I haven't thought he was coming here for awhile so this isn't sour grapes on my part - I don't roll like that anyway - I'm just making an observation. I've taken up for him on here in the past, but I won't be doing it anymore. If Shannon doesn't re-extend a scholly, he will be elevated a notch in my eyes.
there are rumblings that BB to the Vols is a done deal. There is a guy from TOS who seems to have solid intel and he's saying that he will be on the Hill. Let me say this, if BB commits to the Vols the sonic boom will be heard in Baton Rouge, Tuscaloser, Gainesville, and Athens.
BB is as straight laced as they come.I can assure you all (I know two of his family members, and some friend he grew up with)...I have no reason to lie about this. The kid is a 30 year old maturity wise and is trying to be as cautious in this decision as possible. please get off the kid's back. he is a great kid, a great football player, and would do the university proud. he wont pull any gerald jones, josh mcneil, tony robinson, leonard little, lamarcus coker, james banks, dwayne goodrich, jamal lewis, travis henry crap. we are talking tee martin, peyton manning, al wilson, jeff hall, will bartholomew kind of kid here character wise. sheez.
Well-stated! Thank you.
The points you made about BB's parents, and especially his father, were extremely meaningful to me.
So, what do you think about Butler? I didn't know you were a minister, and didn't know you were in Kansas, or I would have asked. You probably know him. Rex is in Texas, I think. Sorry.
No...ha I don't know him (Butler). I have met BB, know some of his realtives and his friends. All anyone has to say about him is that he is an incredible young man.
I don't know if you are familiar with the comments about the coach at East High. That was a pretty big deal here...I watched East play this year several times. The coach abslutely had no concept of how to use BB. He never received one pass in the flat, usually up the middle stuff, and very under utilized. I think Butler is a voice for a kid who needs one in that particular area. If I was BB I wouldn't want my coach handling my recruiting or being a go to guy for information on me. I think Butler fills that void in a good way.
Yes, I read the comments/ quotes from his High School coach and thought I had read a retort from Butler among those articles. Butler didn't offer as plausible of an explanation as you as I recall... only saying something along the lines of he didn't understand why the coach made those comments.
Of course, Butler's responses may have been edited by the reporter or he may have players he's working with on that same team. I'm sure he has to consider his relationship with these coaches and how best to manage that as well.
His HS coach certainly didn't say anything in what I've read that would make me trust him with managing this decision-making process if I were BB. It was obvious they don't have the kind of relationship a player needs with his coach for that sort of advice.
I never argued that 2008 is all that matters. I see it the opposite way. I'm pointing out that nobody is really in a position to be calling Oregon an "average" anything after 2008 no matter what the history is. The people you refer to are acting like UT just came off of winning a national championship and Oregon had a losing season.
However, although I have not said 2008 is "all that matters", I will insist that, to recruits, history (beyond relevant coaches and players) does not (or should not) matter. At least not the way that it has been bandied about here.
To illustrate my point, answer this: how many of you are fans of UT because of their historical win/loss record or trophies? In other words, did you just decide one day that you needed to pick a college team to follow and you then analyzed the history books and decided to hedge your bets that UT might some day become the most winning team in history? I would venture to suggest that most have more substantial reasons for being a UT fan (going to the school, having family that went there, living there, etc.). If history is really what matters most to you, why aren't you all fans of whichever team has the most NC's?
Same applies to recruits. Past accolades do nothing for a recruit in the current situation. Neither do the accolades of teams in the same conference. That is simply due to the fact that every team in the entire NCAA, no matter how many wins or NC's they have, have had off years, off classes and stretches of bad years. Just because the odds are that boosters and fan bases will keep crying until a program gets fixed (because it used to be good) doesn't mean that a recruit should waste their 4-5 years there for the sake of history.
Yep. Wasn't the best season. Oklahoma probably thought it was a scrimmage.

if he was a white farm kid you wouldnt have called the guy a pimp.
Yes I would. Agent for a high school recruit = pimp. Your veiled racism accusations are ridiculous considering you don't know me; that may work in Kansas but not in my neck of the woods.
I hope BB ultimately picks the Vols, but regardless he is being pimped and playing the publicity game.
