Brian Maurer throwing shade on twitter

He can say anything he wants. It’s still arrogant and
I’ll-advised and we certainly are in our rights to offer an opinion on it. Many of us have invested quite a bit in UT football over the years, likely more than BM’s has in short time here.
Yes, everyone has a 'right" to their opinion, and to express it When that is done, expect criticism. Arrogant? I don't see it that way. I doubt, anyone, on this forum has put as much work and effort into trying to improve the team as BM. TIME? Yes, some have, but actual personal work and effort, not likely.

I disagree. I don’t like WHAT he said any more than anyone else but the more I think about it the more I like what he did. He just “jumped over the goal posts” defending his teammates and program from those tearing it down. You may not respect that but I assure you if you were wearing shoulder pads this coming weekend, you would have a different view knowing he just went to bat for YOU
I totally get what he’s saying, but he’ll never win on Twitter and I hope he understands that rather than gets frustrated by it.

I guess I can understand the mentality but he's so far out of bounds if I were Pruitt I'd consider dismissing him. Not that he isn't unlikely to transfer anyway. Even among the high school coaches I know if a player was on social media saying things like this, the discipline would be harsh. Maurer needs to understand that he was afforded a privilege that plenty of people would run through a brick wall to have. It's not merely the players team. It's the team of every single person who gives or chooses to support it in anyway at all. This is the equivalent of a restaurant employee taking to social media and telling the customers who got bad service and left a harsh review that they hate the customers and they can just stay out of the restaurant.

Life can be a lot harder young man. Try having a D.I. yelling in your face trying to prepare you for a job where you are literally asked to give blood, sweat and tears. I've not been critical of Maurer on the field and think his coaches have failed him there. They have apparently failed him regarding social media presence too and I know for sure they are taught about what is appropriate for it.

Look at freeze on Twitter, lol.

Twitter will melt him down if he comes here.

I would make him sign a social media clause.

It's the same degenerates, in all these places.

The most active Tennessee fans are (a) on these forums (this or the other site, or both), (b) on call-in radio shows, and (c) on twitter and facebook. We're all the same people.

Not everyone is on all three, but it's mostly overlap. Even if you're only on VN.com, that doesn't mean the guys to your left and right aren't on both, or all three, or all four.

So I _am_ addressing the fools in the Tennessee football part of the twitter-verse when I post here. And I'm addressing the folks who call in on 104.5 the Zone or the Knoxville stations or Finebaum. We're all here together.
Kids don't do Facebook anymore.

So we can't criticize government, teams, businesses, or anyone other than ourselves now???

Wellllllll.....

Isn't that special.
Oh no you can, but there are quite a few on here that push it to the extreme sometimes. Probably the same people that reach out to these players on different social media platforms.

Many of us have been following Tennessee football since before he was born. Many of us on this board have played football and put in the two a days in July and hard work. Some of us on this board were talented and fortunate enough to play at a higher level (Lord knows not me). Point is, he needs to check his attitude because the fans put butts in seats, buy memorabilia and product. The fans are the reason the school gives away free education.

We all respect the players and their hard work, but it does irk me a little when they respond to criticism this way. You’re 2-6. It’s more on the coaches than the players and most criticism has been directed at Pruitt

Many of the fans invest time and money towards the program in exchange for what? We get this kind of performance where beating Vandy is the new measuring stick around here.

I’m sure Maurer is a great kid but we see what goes on the field. We don’t deserve this kind of performance week after week.

Tennessee is lucky they have a handful of fans that still care, because a lot of them don’t anymore.

I admit that you can take it too far. Berating the players over social media is garbage and anyone doing so can turn in their fan card for that. We won’t miss them.

If any one of us experienced a day in the life of BM or JG, we’d have all lost our chit long before now.
It’s got to be crazy. I played NAIA golf in college which is about the bottom of the totem pole when it comes to college athletics and the time management demands just from that were hard to get used to. I can’t imagine all of that plus the mental and physical pressures of big time football AND the fan scrutiny.

I understand where Maurer's coming from. Whether you're winning or losing, I'm sure most all players put everything they have into their sports. However, if you lose SIX SEC games in a row in record fashion, you gotta know you're not going to get a participation trophy or alot of positive vibes coming your way.

When games have been on the line for winnable games (KY, ARK, AUB), we didn't compete...we did the opposite and continued to make critical errors at critical times...doesn't mean they're not trying...the collective team (including coaches) doesn't know how to win.

How about this...stay off social media and internet....keep your head down and go out and win the next two games and win a bowl game, and the off season will be a little more fun.

Witch Doctor hope to GOD (Peyton) someone is telling these kids to stay off social media because our fans on social media suck harder than black hole(better not say). Witch Doctor say good season or bad season, we have some really dumb fans.

Bones Never Lie.

But, but, but...

...we don't have any affect on players or recruits! They have no idea what's happening on VN.com, or that other site, or the call-in radio stations, or twitter or facebook. They don't know what the fans are saying. We're free to be divisive and negative and hateful and petty all we want, right?

Right?

Thank you, Brian Maurer, you just proved wrong every person on this board who claims what we say here doesn't matter.

It does matter. The lads are listening.

Be unhappy at a bad product, sure, but accept responsibility for HOW you show your unhappiness.

Stop the hate. Stop the pettiness. Grow up. Be mature. Provide critical observation and analysis, sure, of both coaches and players, but do it as if you were criticizing a loved one. Be measured and respectful in your criticism. Be fair.

The youth of our program are watching and considering carefully every word you say.
I think this was Twitter driven...since he lives on there.

My point is I think he’s done very well handling and ignoring to this point. Considering the circumstances at this present time, I can see why he finally snapped. Once again.... no problem with WHAT he did. Just HOW he said it and I can assure you, he didn’t mean it the way it was written. I’m confident he was only talking to the ones that don’t conduct themselves well and “attack” on social media.
