Breaking: Ricky Gibson to the portal

Immoral is the wrong word for sure. Selfish is more appropriate.
Meh, I know what you mean but since the word game is being played. It's greed and greed is one of the 7 deadly sins. Sin is immoral.

But everyone is immoral so wtf. Am I right?

I'd tell him to kick rocks.

I’m glad our staff doesn’t hold players to your standard. Would hate to lose lineman for the sin of attending a buffet and overindulging

Then, yes, we all fit that standard for sure. I don’t job hop for the most money as I believe that’s not the main factor for where I want to work. It’s high up the list of course but not tops. For other people it is. We don’t know what all Gibson is including in his decision other than money but it’s entirely possible he has other motivation as well. The bottom line is he’s either worth x amount of money to someone or not. I guess he is but perhaps not to us. Of course, most of this is a guessing game.

If you allowed a player to try to renegotiate several times in as many months like Danl's scenario you commented on and let a lineman overindulge at buffets until l he got fat and lazy, I hope our staff has higher standards than you.

I'd tell Gibson to kick rocks just like you'd tell one of your employees to If they tried that BS with you. And not because what they're doing is immoral.

I was mostly being facetious.

That's not a changeable problem currently.

The State of TN, with UT's blessing, joined the WV case that led to multiple, no penalty transfers. It's what UT wanted, apparently.

The State or UT has been involved in several lawsuits making NIL almost completely unregulated. Again, it seems to be what UT wanted.

As for tampering with players, I feel certain we're as involved as anyone in sending out feelers to potential transfers.

Certainly Rickey Gibson didn't create the Wild West aspects he's using, UT however is heavily involved with other states and schools in repeatedly suing the NCAA to get here.

Who should we blame for this?
I had my hopes pinned on you but for the right amount of money I’m willing to blame D4H.

Are all employees replaceable? This isn’t a fry cook.

They’re very replaceable. It’s a job the majority of people can do vs a job less than 1% are capable of.
Since you like semantics. Anyone could do either. More could fry to perfection than could play his position perfectly.

We done talking about fry guys?

In Danl's scenario that you commented on, are you going to allow your most valued employee at your business to renegotiate like that?

I would listen to them. If I couldn’t replace them, I would negotiate

Just read this in an article about Carter from Nico. Does not appear to be any team animosity towards him so all is good there.
------------------------------------------
“He’s primarily a defensive back, but I love seeing Boo on offense during the little chances we do get,” UT quarterback Nico Iamaleava said following spring practice on Wednesday. “I love seeing that man go to work.”

Carter is known for his, shall we say, personality. It’s rarely quiet around Carter, whether he’s playing offense or defense.

“Boo talks a lot,” Iamaleava said with a smirk. “That’s since we played tournaments in high school. Boo always is going to talk for sure.”

That’s not necessarily a bad thing. The Vols could use a little more swagger amongst a largely unproven set of receivers.

“It’s great,” Iamaleava said. “It rubs off on a lot of our guys because I wouldn’t say a lot of our guys are big talkers, so when he comes over, he brings that energy. It’s great having Boo.

I believe the point is:

You can teach lots of people to be a fry cook reasonably easily.

Rickey Gibson has a 40 time of something like 4.5sec and good size. You can't teach that and it comes in very handy for an SEC CB. While not irreplaceable, he's far harder to replace than a good fry cook.

Gibson is practicing so they either talked it out with him or re-renegotiated with him.

It's done. However it worked out, he's in Orange and that's a good thing.

Lol. I believe I know what the point is.

He likes to argue I was obliging.

I told you what I would do. You’re saying I wouldn’t. So what’s the other option
This is now stupid, but....

I guess your option (not mine) is to go out of business. I mean if you can't reach an agreement after multiple requests for more money and the irreplaceable employee leaves.

What’s our option here. I’m not asking about the hypothetical. I’m speaking about reality.

The reality is we really need him and it’s unlikely an equal or better player will be available.

So what should the staff have done?

The bottom line is, if he makes us better and helps us win games, that’s what matters.

Yeah. I'm guessing the staff believes he does make us better and either talked him into staying or paid him into staying.

Of course there's still a month until the portal and it's possible guys out there taking reps will hit the portal in April.

With Merk seeing GMac taking some QB2 reps, one wonders if he might get a little "don't call it tampering" interest from elsewhere and think about it.
