Bowl Game QB

So let the middle school and high school kids play at the college level then and vice versa.

An organization can set rules to define who is allowed to participate based on reasonable expectations and set expectations those who participate have to adhere to. That is not an Antitrust issue in my opinion.

The 5 to play 4 was not set arbitrary - it was based on the typical timeframe a student should obtain a degree. That timeframe comes into play in other aspects of obtaining a college education.
The NCAA was allowed to set transfer rules too, until they weren't.

The NCAA was allowed to set rules about JUCO years being part of eligibility, now we hope they aren't able to enforce those rules.

The NCAA can't just limit eligibility because it fits their business model of "we're just a bunch of college kids playing football." That ship has sailed. The courts have TOLD them that they can't argue "because that's how it's always been in the NCAA" and win.

LOTS of students stay in school 6, 7, 8 years to get a degree AND the NCAA allows grad students to play. Grad students are ROUTINELY beyond their 4th or 5th years in college for most students.

How can the NCAA allow grad students to play and yet insist the "5 to play 4" is based on the "normal" student time in school. That's simply not true for most grad students or many professional degree students.

So are you going to bench all your other starters too? Good luck with that.
Coaches aren't going to risk still having a chance at a winning season into a potential losing one and they still want to put their guys into the NFL

Most of our starters have eligibility for next year. QB did not and we have major question marks for next year at the position. We missed the playoffs with the loss to Oklahoma and the season was effectively over.

The timing was perfect as well given we had a bye week and a game against NM state in the 3 weeks leading up to Florida. Who was playing QB did not matter one bit in those two games. We had a total of like 419 pass yards against those two opponents. If you can’t confidently say you couldn’t trust Heupel to get any of his QB’s ready to put out that little of production, there are bigger issues.

It’s a playoff sport now. Heupel’s long term job security is tied to the program getting better. Not making sure people can pad stats in meaningless games.

Finishing 2-1 with Merk or Mac showing flashes is a better 8-4 record than the 8-4 record we just finished with. Sad but true.

Uh
It is going to be Joey for sure. I would much rather go through an offseason of UT finishing 9-4 instead of 8-5. There is a pretty good chance this is Aguilar's last game in his collegiate career too.
8-5 finish with Merk or Mac showing flashes is a 10000009x better outcome than 9-4 finish with Aguilar and no idea what the QB’s with eligibility left can do.

Merk and Mac only have practice tape to go off of to know what they need to improve on. Spare me the one or two drive mop ups in blowouts they played in.
