Bowl Game QB

Who do you guys think will be the starting QB for the bowl game? Nico started the Citrus Bowl in 2023 instead of Joe Milton. Do you think Heupel will go with Aguilar or give Merk or GMac a shot? I would like to see GMac get some real playing time if Aguilar doesn’t start, but I would guess Heupel would go with Merk if not Aguilar.

Honestly I hope it's Aguilar. I like Aguilar and while Merk and Mac seem like genuine good guys, I'm not sure they are ready to be QB1.

If Aguilar isn't able to come back, I think we need a 1 year rental QB

Still doesn't solve the problem. Chances are, it's gonna be the summer before anything happens in the lawsuit-if not later

How you gonna handle spring practice if JA is still a question mark?

You give him reps or you give them to the younger guys in case the lawsuit fails?

Messy
Give enough reps to the top 2 qb to be ready to start.

.....and once again, far from optimal.

If you have to go with one of the younger guys they will need every rep possible

Even if JA does get another year and Heupel names him starter-that means you will likely lose two out of Merk/GMac/Faison next off-season. Between them, we will have paid NIL for a total of 6 player seasons and gotten nothing from it. High 4* and 5* star QBS aren't cheap man and people are going to start asking questions about not only the financials but WHY Heupel cannot recruit/train/keep a QB.

I agree with you on this.

Rhetorical? I mean Heupel is first and foremost a players coach. You really think he'd cast Aguilar on the burn pile and start anyone else in a bowl game after what Aguilar has done to save our collective arses this year? Not a chance in Hades anyone other than Aguilar starts unless Aguilar is injured or sitting out.

Age has nothing to do with it, it's eligibility and does JUCO count. You can be 30 yrs old and decide to go to college, never played a down of college football and make a team, you'll have the years of eligibility granted to you
There was a Army guy who retired after 20 years and made the South Carolina team at 38. I believe he was a WR

Heupel should have ripped the bandaid off after Oklahoma to get Merk or Mac live reps as the starter. Since he is smart as evidenced by firing Banks, he needs to turn it over to Mac. Conventional wisdom is Merk is transferring. So Mac should get all the reps as the starter in practice and the bowl game.

On Gameday I believe there was some 50 something year old guys that went back to school and made the team as a walkon and getting some NIL from some ache cream or something haha

NCAA may as well bite the bullet and say JUCO years don't count, only NCAA school(D1,D2,D3) playing time does, 5 years eligibility, can not have played Pro ball

I've seem plenty of post here when it comes to Joey and other than they don't want to see 30yr olds play, may as well get ready for it, especially with NIL
You're going to have some Army Ranger, Navy SEAL or some average Joe workout guy in great shape that never went to college and decides that want to get a degree and see if they got what it takes to make some team and also get some NIL money

Imagine being some 28yr old walk on with a dream that can kick 50+ yrd FG consistently, never played college ball, next year you wind up with a full ride scholarship and $80K NIL .

It's coming

So are you going to bench all your other starters too? Good luck with that.
Coaches aren't going to risk still having a chance at a winning season into a potential losing one and they still want to put their guys into the NFL

His lawsuit is not gonna be settled before the portal opens.

Remember-now only one portal in January.

Basically-Hsuoels gonna have to decide whether or not to commit to him for next season AND hope the lawsuit is successful.

One of our young guys needs to be under center next year. What is the point of having a bench full of 4 and 5 star QBs-and paying the associated NIL bills-and not playing them?
I realize it is sacrilegious to say but hopefully JA isn't the QB next year. He is a great young man and i wish him the best but not at the expense of the football program. Physically he has limits our other qbs do not have. Merklinger or MacIntyre should have the offense down pat now. If they don't, we have bigger problems than who will be the starting qb in 26

Not expecting him to be top tier. Rarely is anyone top tier without real time game experience. But two years in he should be ready to be serviceable, ready to hit the field and learn and improve every game.

You act as if one day in the 3rd season they wake up and are ready. It just doesn’t work like that. And in this new era throwing the RS word around is silly. If you get the kind of QB you’re hoping to achieve they will never be here 4 years anyway.
