Bleak future/Time to put the black curtains back up/woe unto us (merged)

I remember the days where you could to to TBA for a game and carry on a convo with your buddy....and he was on the other side of the arena.

I hope games dont get too awful bad but I dont see 20k+ in there unless its a big big game.

If that does happen, you can always watch Miami basketball.

Not saying we cant hire a sucessful coach...but history is not on our side.

I'm sorry...I'm in the "hope Bruce stays" camp.I guess I'm not supposed to know history.

Looking at history is fine. However, you are ignoring our most recent history of success and getting a successful hire in Pearl. If Pearl did not have serious character issues, he would, without question, still be our coach. Why can we not hire another person who can be just as successful or even more so than Pearl?

I wrote President DiPietro and Chancellor Cheek an e-mail saying if Pearl is fired I will no longer purchase season tickets for UT Basketball. I know they probably won't miss my $420 but it's all I can do to voice my opinion.

There will be plenty to replace you. Get the Blue Devil hat out of the closet.

Small crowds await.

If only there was one individual whose actions were directly responsible for this situation. Someone who had lied and cheated and was being punished by a higher power whose direct influence will be responsible for our scholarship reductions, poor roster composition, and even the banning of our coach from working in the NCAA for a year or more. If only we had someone who's job it was to know the consequences they would face if they carelessly flaunted the rules of their profession.

If only there was such a person we could hold responsible...

This is exactly the reason this whole thing has just become idiotic. There will always been others to replace you, always has been and always will be. Why not support the team and the sport, versus being loyal to a coach. Neyland still fills up, and Fulmer isn't coach anymore.

I agree completely. If you were only going to games because of Pearl, you weren't a UT basketball fan anyway and I'm sure there will be some true fan that will gladly take your place.

I'm not ignoring that fact. That's exactly what I'm talking about.

But you continue to stay with the crowd that thinks we can have no success without the great Pearl. It simply isn't rational thinking.

Then why did we have the curtains up pre-Bruce?

Once again I'm not saying we cant have sucess...history just isnt on our dise.

Did you know that if it wasn't for Buzz Peterson being hired in '01, there is a good possibility that we could have batted close to 1.000 in going to the dance since 1998?? Every single SEC program has had their ups and downs, look at KY's recent issues.

TN athletic office announced today a new emblem for TN Basketball:

Well, the Pro-Bruce crowd made it clear yesterday at 3 that they will turn out in big numbers to support their guy. Clearly people of conviction. So, I don't believe that those who attend games will stop attending if Pearl is fired. If they do, I would say they were the people telling me to sit down and shut up and leaving with 10 minutes left anyway.

If the bandwagoners want to jump ship because Pearl is leaving the good riddance. They can go chant "chicken sandwich", leave early from the game, and sit without making a sound elsewhere.

Probably because we didn't have the contracts for TV that we have now. Even if Pearl wasn't our coach for the past 6 seasons, they would have taken care of that issue before going on TV.

If memory serves me right it was because of TV exposure that the curtains went up...didnt like showing an empty upper deck.

Yes I was here during Buzzball.Thats my argument.

I agree completely. I'm still amazed at the crowd of folks who think TN basketball is dead unless Pearl is the coach. We have the facilities and money to bring in a highly successful and even exceed what Pearl has done. Pearl should get full credit for his accomplishments, but to pretend that no one else can be successful here is absurd.
Of course it is absurd but the history of UT basketball is written in the absurd.

For decades, we have consistently managed to undervalue our basketball program, treating it like some retarded stepchild who we throw big playrooms at (TBA) but refuse to obtain a proper instructor. It's sickening, projectile vomit sickening.

I was around in the Mears era but if you look at his record, it isn't one with national prominence written on it.

Then Pearl kinda falls in our lap and UT basketball comes alive. NCAA tournament appearances, victories, yada.

So I understand my fellow Vollovers concerns. UT basketball has been the Theater Of The Absurd.

Just look at the mess we are in today.
