BJ Coleman (Merged)

The injury was certainly a factor. I just mean that Stepehns is still 3rd w/o the injury.

Can you please enlighten everyone here why you are constantly so negative on Stevens? Are you related to BJ or Crompton or something? Nick's step father or something? Have you ever played one single down in football?

Some words that were said after the spring game.

I really hope what you heard is wrong. I have just been waiting for BJ to really get a look from this new staff. Fulmer sure was not going to do it. I know how much being a Vol and wearing the orange means to BJ....but I know he wants an opportunity to play. Man, I hope you are wrong.

Newvol...

What are your thoughts on Nick? What do the coaches think about him...do you expect him to compete for the starting job during the fall after he rehabs his wrist over the summer?

Thanks

I believe if Nick had not got hurt before even hitting the field, he would have ended up the man. All he's had are mental reps. He would have been a lot better off by being able to physically play and read coverages. His arm is still very weak and you can't really blame inaccurate or slow balls on him right now. He has a lot of catching up to do but he has 3 months to do so.

This is what I thought would have happened when the recruiting period ended...

I thought that the 3 QB's would compete like everyone else. However, I believed the coaches would have went with Nick rather than BJ or Crompton. I thought so because Nick provided an experienced QB for us next year (2010) while our incoming Freshman could learn the system for a year on the bench and he would become the eventual starter when Nick graduates.

I didnt think they would go with Crompton because that could force us into having a new starting QB every season for the next 2-3 years.
EX: 2009-Crompton
2010-Stephens or Coleman
2011-Coleman or 2010 recruit to replace Stephens.

If we went with Nick and he was serviceable it would look like this:
2009-Stephens
2010-Stephens (Experienced QB)
2011-2010 Recruit that would have redshirt or took a year to learn the system. (The real beginning of the Kiffin Era)

That is what I was thinking...I believe that if he works hard over the summer he should take the starting job. IMO based on what I have seen out of Nick I believe he gives us the best chance on the field to win games..more athletic and has more zip on the ball than Crompton..

I believe you were trying to say He NS is the one you want to win the job. Why don't you try speaking to some of the players.

Wait is this you Nick?

You seem to like to respond to my post. Is this BJ? I have tried speaking to the players. That's where I came up with that conclusion. I dooubt everyone wants the same person to win the job so I don't expect everyone to agree. Who do you want to be the QB and why?

RADICALLY disagree with this. I think he gives us the worst chance. He may have a better arm, but he is not more athletic. He has no pocket presence, and is about as slow as Erik Ainge. He has the ZERO cool about him.

And what players are wanting him to win the job? You've talked to Nick I assume?? Eric Berry raves about BJ Coleman as a leader and presence on the team.

It makes no sense to me how so many of you guys could see any upside to this guy. The offense was just as bad, if not worse when he came in. His 2 wins were a squeaker against Northern Illinois and Miss State, where the Defense put up more points than the offense. Its debatable what was worse last year, Crompton vs Auburn, or Stephens vs South Carolina......

I respond to you because you want us to believe you are in the ALL knowing when I happen to know some things you don’t know. Now what do I want. I want a QB that will be have these qualities
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p> </o:p>

Performance: While he and JC were both average at best on Saturday, the over all performance went to BJ
<o:p> </o:p>
Intelligent: Understands the game and the system. (Listen to his interview after the O&W game) Not to mention any football player that can achieve a 3.0 or better should be given credit and here is the ONLY QB that obtained that. Yes that will also translate over to being a student of the game and his work habits.
<o:p> </o:p>
Leader: A QB the other players respect look up to and respond for
Some one who can stay calm under pressure. Ask EB his thoughts on BJ. Now I do believe he is a tremendous influence on his team mates so ask Eric, if you don’t believe me about his leadership.
<o:p> </o:p>
CALM: Someone who can stay CALM during the heat of the game. Check out how the school that sent him to us instills about how to react to adverse times. Again a leadership quality.
<o:p> </o:p>
You ask me who I want. Well I hope it is BJ, but what I hope most is that we have a QB that can lead us to wins, whoever it is. I just know BJ is the best suited at this point and time

How do you know that Stephens doesn't have the mental tools?

You're so wrapped up in Coleman that you say whatever you think can change people's minds.

Of course the injury is what made him look bad at the spring game. He broke his throwing wrist less than two months ago. He missed almost all of spring camp, yet he still got on the field and tried to compete. That shows the staff something, as it does with his teammates too.

He didn't play, couldn't work out his throwing arm, and lost time to refine his game under a true QB coach.

This competition won't be over until the fall, no matter how much you want a Tennessean running the offense.

Players go a little deeper with some than they do with others. They are taught how to speak and to whom to speak with. And some people on here need to realize that EB is not God. He is human. His word is no better than the next players. He also raved about Brent Vinson, which I know how he really feels about him. EB is a great kid but he is human and has biased opinions just like the rest of us. I agree that BJ has looked good. I was stating others opinions as well as mine just like everyone else on this board. That doesn't necessarily mean that it is right.

Hahaha what? McCallie teaches football players how to stay calm during a game? What level do they even play at?

If we're comparing high school resumes I am picking the Texas player every single time.

Sorry if you are a McCallie alum, but that shows your bias.

Exhibit A: South Carolina game

Exhibit B: Wyoming Game

And what about the Vandy game?

Or the UGA game?

You cannot say that Coleman looked good against Vanderbilt. He threw a pick 6 in one of 6 throws against a bad defense. He had one decent throw that wasn't even on target but was bailed out by the receiver.

So you'd rather have some kid from Texas than home state Tennessee?? That just pains me to here.

Not once have I stated that I was "ALL IN THE KNOW" but unless you are a coach or a player, I might be moreso than you. I don't know that, you may be. I believe you might know something I don't, but I also know that I know some things you don't as well. I really don't care. But I agree with what you say about a QB.

No I am not McCallie Alum. What I do know is there curriculums and the values they instill not just in players but ALL students. I'll take a leader out of McCallie over any High School in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" /><st1:State w:st="on">Tennessee</st1:State> or <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Texas</st1:place></st1:State>. Shall I begin to name the names of great leaders that are graduates of McCallie and then we can match them against <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Texas</st1:place></st1:State> ones. People have this misconception if they were a QB in <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Texas</st1:place></st1:State> they are great. I give you Brandon Stewart sir.
