Bernie Sanders Thread

Bernie and Rand Paul are going to tour the country together doing debates.

I hope Bernie will start by banning the guns used by the secret service (if he gets the nomination) because those are definitely people killers and not for hunting.

Over 100,000 people participated in a town hall style YouTube stream last night.

Also, a new poll has Bernie as only a 13 point dog to Hillary in New Hampshire.

Bernie is going to propose a bill that would give each citizen a tax break (up to $100) for any donation to candidate - as a way to get more people involved in the political process.

What do you guys think?

Why doesn't he support cutting taxes across the board for everyone regardless of political donations? It's almost insulting. Here's a bit of your money back, but only if you donate to a politician.

Bernie Sanders suggests giving every American $100 to give to campaigns - Vox

"One way which I find intriguing is that you basically provide $100 for every citizen in the United States of America, and you say to that person, 'Here's your hundred bucks, you can make a contribution, you can get a $100 tax credit if you spend $100 on any candidate you want,'" Sanders said. "I think that would democratize very significantly the political process in America and take us a long way away from these Super PACs controlled by billionaires who are now buying elections."

This is beyond idiotic.

Lets see, someone gave me $100 bucks to spend on a political candidate - maybe I think I'll give it to the guy who is giving away money? Nah.

Thought about the $100 bucks some more. Assuming 200 million citizens are eligible to vote (registered or not) that's $20 billion of government spending to fund what essentially could be a status quo outcome of funding based on polling data of who one supports.

Where would that get us other than $20 billion deeper in the hole?

Idk, I thought it was interesting. Not sure that I like it one way or another.

Add it to making voter registration mandatory when renewing your license at 18 and making election day a national holiday (no work) and I think you've got a recipe for higher voter turnout.

Wow, another government mandate and paid holiday for government workers. You are on a roll.

PS the government cannot make private business give holidays. A better option would be to move election day to a Friday, Saturday AND Sunday.

I don't mind your proposal at all.

National holiday for voting?

Not a bad idea. The republican turn out for voting would be higher. It's a pita sometimes being at work and trying to find the time to vote.
