Wish I could. The good news is reservation fee is $1K vs $5K for Models S & X. Still not easy to do with delivery beginning in late 2017.

Fortunately, there is a store in Sarasota so we're heading over in the morning.

I love what tesla is doing. I also love the wool they have pulled over the eyes with their non dealer model. All customers pay list price? I'm all for that.

The dealership model has only itself to blame, that said, customers are willing to pay more to not negotiate at car-max. So why did they feel like negotiating at the dealership.

Used is a whole different ball game.

At Carmax they are paying for piece of mind that the used car is legit and free from hidden problems. Not an issue for new cars.

I think Carmax is overpriced but I understand why customers pay it.

Honda seems to be one of the few new dealers than can keep things pretty close to MSRP. On the other end of the spectrum you have Buick offering 16% of MSRP in the dang ads!

So I've been in meetings all morning and couldn't get away. Husband got there about 25 minutes before store opened and there were ~150 already in line. Apparently moving quickly, though; 2-3 minutes per.
 
Got this for the wife today. 2013 X3 with 30k. Certified preowned and only 1 previous owner. Going to be perfect for tailgating this season!

If you plan on keeping it, find a trusted independent BMW mechanic now.

It sounds weird, but if he's a good one, he will loathe your X3 but know how to fix it, and more importantly head off major issues.

Certified preowned with a 100,000 mile warranty. Don't plan on keeping it for more than 2 or 3 years.

Fair enough. I wasn't sure if their CPO plan had changed since when I worked for a BMW dealer.

I'd still keep one handy just it case. You never know what they'll decide not to cover, and I say that from experience.

(And I don't mean they're bad cars, just that it helps to have another option should something uncovered arise.)

So, I guess buying a car used or new as a cash customer is dead?

Wife wants a Subaru, and its getting ridiculous...

Yep - sometimes a worse deal if the dealer gets some action on the financing.

The place I see a cash advantage is if it's true cash on a non-finance deal and paying real cash (or check) saves the dealer from paying a debit/credit card processing fee.

I'm not even expecting a wildly better deal. I'm mainly hoping to avoid the usual song and dance, just make an offer, get a counter, agree on a price and write a check/pick up cash/bring silver coins or whatever they want.

3 times now, it pretty much got me blown off and outright ignored. The other times, I pretty much get told "Well, there's the list price, pay that..."

I guess I wish for some sort of middle ground between CarMax (pay Retail + 10/20% or walk away) and the usual Lot Lizards (grind away over hours in a miserable process, followed by never ending sales calls).

As I've said before, I was a parts guy for several years. I understand a lot of the business. I know the financing is where a ton of money is made and the salesmen can hit their marks and make some scratch...but damnation there's more than one way to do that.
 
Don't know what to say. If you don't want to negotiate you either have two choices, pay the asking price or go to carmax.

Otherwise all I can say is use KBB to find out what a fair purchase price on one is and ask them to do that number or a bit less.

If you're getting blown off, it might be that your offer isn't reasonable or the car is in high demand. Most dealers won't let a deal that makes money walk.

If you shop new, use true car to help find your best price.
