I don't think we will ever know what kind of competition will have taken place. I think that Aguilar will get a lot of first team reps as soon as fall practice starts, and I think that would be the right and fair thing to do. The coaches have seen Merk and GMac practicing Heupel's offense. They have not seen Aguilar do that, so they will give him the lion's share of reps up front to see what he's got.I just dont see how someone could come in and take the job only being on campus 3 months over someone who’s been here over a year. Could be wrong though. I just want it to be a legitimate open position battle that the best guy wins, whoever it maybe
thats also a lot of eggs to put in an unproven basket.I don't think we will ever know what kind of competition will have taken place. If that happens and is reported by the talking heads, many on VN will have a series of unholy conniption fits, assuming that Aguilar has been "given" the starter's job.
Just my $.02
"Tino Sunseri (new UCLA offensive coordinator), a respectable job he's done, he's going to come in and call plays for Nico Iamaleava. The problem with that is [that] Nico had a 25 percent pressure to sack ratio last year for Tennessee. That is God awful. It was absolutely the worst in the SEC. And I think fourth in the entire nation of anybody that had enough quality passing attempts.
Good find! He really gets the ball out quick. Often in the film I've watched he's delivering the ball before his teammates turn their head. Here's one way I KNOW Aguilar will be better. Avoiding sacks. Nico was absolutely terrible at this
Vols were top 10 in run game but 87th in sacks allowed.
App St was 86th in run game but 30th in sacks allowed.
He can do anything in an unofficial capacity. So he is considered a "guest" just like Dobbs is when he comes to visit and throw with the other QBs. Meaning, he just needs somebody to let him through the door and he is good to go as long as the coaches don't care.Question about what he’s “supposed to be able to do” before August practice.
Can he meet with coaches in their offices and look at formations and game films?
Can he be “practicing” in the indoor facility with any players (like wide receivers)?
At this point, restrictions are stupid. These kids are getting paid. They should be able to work with the coaches as much as needed. But the NCAA is clinging to relevance for dear life.He can do anything in an unofficial capacity. So he is considered a "guest" just like Dobbs is when he comes to visit and throw with the other QBs. I think his learning is all on his own right now though. I am sure the coaches gave him an iPad full of film, a binder full of summer study, and some things he needs to work on. Any team member can participate in catch, drills, etc. as long as it is unofficial, which is really anything at this point in the year so for all intents and purposes he can do whatever he wants. Coaches are all on the recruiting trail anyway and so he is probably just practicing with anybody on campus who wants to.
