If you are talking about him saying something about trusting the D... that "reason" made no sense. At that point, there was no advantage in having a 13 pt lead rather than a 12 pt lead.

What other reasons are you referring to? And if you would, maybe explain why you think they were valid.

Unless the analytics said we'd hold them to a TD and 2 FGs rather than 2 TDs.

Not this morning, but he will be my alter ego this afternoon.

That was actually funny. Damn grammar nazis out heavy this morning!! #damnautocorrect

Neuheisel went on to say basically, "but what do I know, I'm a coach hosting radio and TV, and he's coaching at one of the most desired places in the world..."

I just hope all of this justified criticism from both former players and coaching peers wakes Butch up to his mistakes....It's one thing for us fans to gripe--but it's quite another thing when guys who have been there and done that to make the same points...

He can't run from the reality....the big eye don't lie!

I do believe this is bitter medicine for Butch, but that he will grow through it and be a better coach! :salute:

go vols!

I'm in complete agreement. If he's resilient, (his word), then I pray the negative becomes a positive. Humility is the world's best teacher. GBO

As I recall, Neuhiesel had his own significant problems which caused issues at his alma mater as coach, University of Washington and University of Colorado-Boulder. He should not be lambasting Butch. Butch made mistakes, he should own up to them, not hang the kids out to dry. He talks about doing it the right way at Tennessee, start owning up to the mistakes made by the staff. This loss is ALL on the staff!

Hypocrisy in the media? On the message boards? Whaaaat?! Next think you will be telling me that Butch or is it Lyle is only human and not a football android from the future. All that recruiting and rebuilding the roster is probably a LIE too. Confess LYLE!

I heard Neuhiesel immediately following the game. He was practically speechless. I say 'practically' because he found just enough words to bash Butch then too.

You make mistakes at places like Central Michigan and Cincinnati NOT The University of Tennessee. His chart should have been updated long before we got to the 4th quarter of the most important game of his coaching career (so far).

SEC coaches don't use charts. They know what to do.

His statement indicated that the chart said go for two, but he had reasons to make another decision and take the PAT. Maybe you could get the story straight before griping with speeches about CM and Cinci.

When he ran Hurd on 3rd and 10 he wasn't expecting a score. He was content with an easy FG. He was overly excited about getting a TD that he completely overlooked the necessity of going for two. He's guilty of playing on emotion that interferes but amazingly denies that he does. He's definitely not composed on the sideline and he puts himself and the team in such predicaments.Chaos creeps in.

Actually, the state of the program was abysmal when Butch took over. No depth or talent on the roster. A seasoned, veteran coach would see this and not want the headache. An up and coming coach from a mid level program would jump at the chance, hence Butch.

With that being said, the Program now is loaded with Talent and future talent with the current recruiting class taking shape. Now would be the time to get a top level, proven coach. They would jump at the chance to take over the talent that Butch has assembled and win with it...it would give them at least a 2 year head start on their own recruiting.

I am not appealing for Butch to get fired, just stating the differences btw then and now. I am pissed off to know ends at Saturday...and I have lost almost all confidence in Butch's in game coaching, but I haven't dismissed him yet. Let's let the season play out first then visit his job security at that point.

HHmmmmmn

Who in Vol Nation wasn't either speechless or outright so damn angry they could strangle CBJ immediately after the game ?

Neuhiesel probably didn't deserve his own thread. There have been plenty others calling Jones out.

I agree. I can forgive the Oklahoma debacle as bad as that was. This however was atrocious. The players won this game and the coaches took it from them. This next game will tell me all I need to know about Butch Jones. Can he get this team ready to go or will they go into a shell and get embarrassed? As much as it stings it's time to move on to Arkansas.

I'm afraid I'll have to agree with you, no reason to lose this game, and if we do, we better pucker up because UGA & Bama may whup de azz.

thank you for sharing as this is not something we have heard 100 times before - truly a great addition to the rest of the insightful topics started in the last 48 hours.

It is insightful from a someone who know. How about you quit being little bit(# about things.

I just checked the GoVolsXtra poll and 87% feel that the UF game was lost by coaching mistakes. Butch needs to deal with this! Some of our players made mistakes also. As a fan, I will continue to support the team as long as they (including the coaches) are making progress. I wasn't expecting immediate results but I was expecting better results than the UF game.

Many chances to win this game and if a particular play doesn't work we can understand that but not going for two, even if it didn't work, wouldn't have made a difference. It would have made a difference if we had gotten the two points, at worst we went into overtime.

He would not have ran Hurd from 10 yds. out on third down had he wanted a TD. He would have likely looked for Wolf on a pass. Read Travis Clay's article in this forum. I find it amazing that he would settle for a FG and not at least make an attempt for a TD that our team did get likely because UF was expecting a pass. Going for two never entered his mind. If we had capable assistants they would have brought it to his attention and he'd called timeout and went for two.In short he prepares good until a certain point, (quick descisions), then he makes mental errors that, at the time, don't seem that bad but haunt the team later.

I think most fans are more up in arms over the mistakes and not whether Jones acknowledges them after the fact. Without the first you don't need the second. The second part is making the first harder to deal with for the fans.

If Jones is not capable (so far that doesn't look good) what he says after the fact is not really gonna matter in the big picture.

Hmmmm. "Jones, have you given YOUR all for Tennessee today?"
