He was blasting Butch for his decision making. Then said he made a mistake and then defending his mistake with a bs excuse in his presser was a joke. Then went on to say he gets paid millions at one of the most desirable jobs in the nation not to be stupid, and that call was flat out stupid!!
He claimed not to be the know all of fb, he's doing radio and TV now, but you just don't make mistakes like that and then defend them.

Lol at one of the most desirable jobs in the nation. That's why all these great coaches have come running to UT when the position was open.

It's this dumb*** ignorant fanbase that makes this job so undesirable.

ThE ignorant fan bases don't keep coaches from going to Florida Alabama or kentucky basketball.

You give yourself too much credit.

Kind of like Saban deciding to try a long field goal and getting it returned for a touchdown and losing against Auburn? They should have fired him on the spot.:eek:lol:

I just checked the GoVolsXtra poll and 87% feel that the UF game was lost by coaching mistakes. Butch needs to deal with this! Some of our players made mistakes also. As a fan, I will continue to support the team as long as they (including the coaches) are making progress. I wasn't expecting immediate results but I was expecting better results than the UF game.

I think most fans are more up in arms over the mistakes and not whether Jones acknowledges them after the fact. Without the first you don't need the second. The second part is making the first harder to deal with for the fans.

If Jones is not capable (so far that doesn't look good) what he says after the fact is not really gonna matter in the big picture.

You make mistakes at places like Central Michigan and Cincinnati NOT The University of Tennessee. His chart should have been updated long before we got to the 4th quarter of the most important game of his coaching career (so far).

His statement indicated that the chart said go for two, but he had reasons to make another decision and take the PAT. Maybe you could get the story straight before griping with speeches about CM and Cinci.

If you are talking about him saying something about trusting the D... that "reason" made no sense. At that point, there was no advantage in having a 13 pt lead rather than a 12 pt lead.

What other reasons are you referring to? And if you would, maybe explain why you think they were valid.

The First team blasted Jones on relying on the chart for the extra point instead of using common sense and going for 2 as the defense was gassed.

The extra point was the make/break for the game.

I just hope all of this justified criticism from both former players and coaching peers wakes Butch up to his mistakes....It's one thing for us fans to gripe--but it's quite another thing when guys who have been there and done that to make the same points...

He can't run from the reality....the big eye don't lie!

I do believe this is bitter medicine for Butch, but that he will grow through it and be a better coach! :salute:

go vols!
Accidental like. I agree with everything until the end. I don't know that butch will get better...I really think he's too stubborn to learn from it and change his ways.

I don't mean to bash butch constantly bc he has done good things, but he's an abysmal game coach when **** gets real. And I won't lie...the frustration and bitterness are still there for me from the culmination of the OU and UF game.

You are right with a 13 point lead Florida would have needed 3 possesions to tie the game and if I am not mistaken there was under 10 minutes to play and there would not been time for Florida to get the ball 3 times. So the risk is if you are going to lose at that point you either lose by 1 or 2 and both are still a loss.

Actually, the state of the program was abysmal when Butch took over. No depth or talent on the roster. A seasoned, veteran coach would see this and not want the headache. An up and coming coach from a mid level program would jump at the chance, hence Butch.

With that being said, the Program now is loaded with Talent and future talent with the current recruiting class taking shape. Now would be the time to get a top level, proven coach. They would jump at the chance to take over the talent that Butch has assembled and win with it...it would give them at least a 2 year head start on their own recruiting.

I am not appealing for Butch to get fired, just stating the differences btw then and now. I am pissed off to know ends at Saturday...and I have lost almost all confidence in Butch's in game coaching, but I haven't dismissed him yet. Let's let the season play out first then visit his job security at that point.

I agree, Vol fans have been waiting 9-10 years to be competitive one again and then they find out their HC actually can't coach/win even with back to back top 5 recruiting classes........what next? Give it 10 more years please

If someone speaks the truth, it's the truth regardless who speaks it. You think Neuheisel is alone??

I'm saying he's the pot calling the kettle black. He's a commentator now criticizing people who are doing the same job he couldn't.
