Any update on Joey?

The NCAA business model is illegal per the Supreme Court and only Congress can fix it.

No organization similar to the NCAA, that is: a non pro model organization, can be formed at this point which would be legal.

The NCAA or any other non pro organization will get sued trying to enforce transfer limits, as we've seen.

Tampering is virtually impossible to stop as was paying players under the table previously.

The issue is: the game needs to go to a pro model, collective bargain with the employee players, and enjoy a partial implied Antitrust Exemption to regulate the things you want regulated.

If you're okay with college going pro, you can have your wish.
People don’t like the Congress has to fix it but I think that’s the only way otherwise it’s going to be lawsuit after lawsuit and boundaries pushed.

Does Heupel hold on or does he hit he portal?
It's very much to Joey's advantage to hit the portal because he still could play at UT. It's UT's decision whether to resign him if he gets cleared by the court to play. It creates options for Joey to hit the portal.

Heupel is going to get a portal QB because trusting the court to clear Joey is too much risk.

If Heupel gets a stud QB, UT is set with a starter, a backup, and true freshman..... we can discuss the order of QBs after Spring ball, but we have 3. Joey can move on.

If Heupel gets a less studly QB and Joey gets okayed by the court, Heupel could invite him back if he hasn't signed elsewhere.

Joey going to the portal lets him have a chance to play no matter what Heupel does. He only has to win his court case.

Do the pro leagues not have minimum pay for each position? The NCAA should require a split of all tv revenue to go to EACH player across all divisions. That should even the playing field a good bit. Pool all sports maybe to cover the non-revenue sports like the AD’s did for years.

Maybe they should sue the professional sports to comply with Title IX.

Have never understood the basis for turning only portions of intercollegiate athletics into pay for play spirts.

A few new well written laws could take the idiot courts out of control any number of ways. Can’t think of any issue that could better get bipartisan support. Nobody likes the current situation. Way more David’s than Goliath’s alumni in Congress.

I don't like that Congress has to fix it but when the Supreme Court tells you 9-0 that Congress has to fix it for your business to be legal, you should listen.

Title IX applies to entities getting Federal funding which the NFL doesn't as far as I know.

I'm unsure exactly what you mean by the NCAA should pool all the money. The conferences years ago sued the NCAA to make their own media deals, so the NCAA itself doesn't control football money.

Individual schools decide their Athletic Dept budget and where the money goes. UT funds non revenue sports, I believe, from football revenue.

I believe the $20.6M the school gets to share with players goes to various sports but largely to football and basketball.

The NFL has a player union, that works with their league, to set rules.

LOL. JA is currently sitting at #4 all time for passing yards in a single season. He has a chance to pass none other than the Sherriff for number 1 all time with a 400 yard performance in the bowl game.

Now, is he as good as Peyton, or a host of other Vol greats we've had at the QB position? Defintiley not on Peyton and Probably not to many others, but to sit here and be like "pffff" at him coming back another year and throwing for 3500 yards acting like his ceiling is just "meh or okay" is quite silly.

If you gave me the option right now to take JA one more year versus any pick of the current portal QBs, Im taking JA. I think hed be even better in a second year under JH. Heck. If he just duplicates what he did this year we are set to have another great offense in 26. Just have to fix that defense.
Too bad yardage doesn't equate to wins. Too many of our opponents held us scoreless after the half. Joey doesn't do well under pressure, playing from behind, or having to carry the offense.

I mean, I wouldn't hate him coming back. He's not a bad qb, just don't think he's the one to get us over the hump. And next year's schedule is gonna be pretty tough. Hell, maybe one more year is what he needs, but I just feel like he has hit his ceiling.

The courts aren't idiots. They are enforcing laws that have been around for more than a century.

Lots of people like the current situation.
Indiana, Ohio State, Texas Tech, and Miami love it.

Lol. Yep, had we had just an average or slightly above average defense, we're in the playoffs this year. We averaged 40 points a game and over 500 yards of offense a game this year. JA's ceiling was pretty dang good.

It's not and never should be a priority. I dare say most Americans don't even understand NIL or anything about college football.
Agreed that Congress has better things to do but I'll add......

I dare say most Congressmen don't understand NIL or anything about college football.

I dare say most of them understand the Sherman Act.

They will be led to act, as usual, by lobbyists representing the big money interests. It is not in the interests, currently, of those making major dollars from college football for the Sherman Act to be amended to fix the NCAA's Antitrust Law issues. When it is, Congress will act.
