He did underachieve and he did lose in some blowouts but for the most part his teams were far more competitive then what we have now. Key word competitive.
Auburn has never scored that many points even when they had better teams and super good backs like Cadillac Williams.
We are Kentucky level bad and If Jones doesn't get the ship truly righted them he will be out in 4. There is too much pride and $$$ to go 5-7 every year.
Are you forgetting:Dooley should have beat LSU in his first year but didn't.
Dooley beat Cincy when he played Jones with this talent we see on the field now.
Jones almost beat UGA (minus two of their best O players). We did beat SC with a great play by North but every other competitive game has been a blowout and now we are seeing the team flat out give up.
I love the energy Jones brings, the cute slogans etc. but lets be honest....Dooley would have fared just as well this year. We see the exact same level of intensity that Dooley produced with pretty much the exact same results.
When SEC rivals set new records against team 117 it is not improvement. We simply have not improved one iota under Jones and it has me concerned that this turn around (if we are having one) is going to be a lot longer than many of us have the stomach for.
Fire away...
Let me ask you guys this would you rather be in Floridas situation? Have a roster full of talent yet be 4-5 and the fourth best team in your state right now. Things could be worse, atleast we have an excuse.
Assuming our recruiting class holds together thru NSD he's better at recruiting
He's better at player relations, public relations, pithy slogans and embracing our traditions
Game preparation, player motivation, game planning? I'd just as soon take Dooley right now. There is no difference.
Same talent + better coaching SHOULD equal better results. We aren't seeing it.Are you forgetting:
Jones has virtually the same defense Dooley had last season
I am really not upset with the O. I know some are but they lost Worley just as he was beginning to come on. They threw Dobbs into a tough situation with him doing some really good things along with some mistakes. If UT weren't being beaten like a bad FCS school by the last 3 opponents... I'm not discouraged.and a fraction of the talent on offense.
So ending up with the same record as one of the least successful coaches in UT history is good enough? Having a WORSE record than that coach did in year one with a VERY similar situation is acceptable?Yet he may end up with the same record.
I heard there's a guy down in florida that coaches defense. May be needing a job.Same talent + better coaching SHOULD equal better results. We aren't seeing it.

The D... and specifically the D coaching... is what has me fired up.

I think Dooley's problem was he NEVER had the credentials to be a HC...anywhere. Like Kiffin, he got by on his daddy's name. Funny how Hamilton got duped twice in a row, hiring two underqualified candidates for that very reason.Dooley should have beat LSU in his first year but didn't.

Dooley would've NEVER had a recruiting class this good coming in.
I agree...the blind loyalty here toward butch is sickening.....it was just like this as well when Dooley was here.....anyone loyal to butch at this point should go join a cult...guy has proven zero so far...only bright spot Is recruiting...
I know, why don't we fire him and get a big name coach....wonder who is waiting in line to be next?! Heck, if you cant turn it around in a year what good are you!
Seriously, though...if Florida does fire him, I really do hope Butch pulls the trigger. Texas hasn't been the same since he left. Still would try to pull out all the stops to bring in Stanford's DC. He's proven that he's not a one year wonder. He's shut down USC when they were hot and Oregon, two years in a row.I heard there's a guy down in florida that coaches defense. May be needing a job.
And no it isn't acceptable. Just an observation.
I'd take him in a heart beat as DC. Don't think Jancek can hang in the SEC.

Don't think he is suited to HC.I question that myself... but I don't think Muschamp is the answer either. If Spurrier leaves, I'd make a run at Ward. Right now, Shoop looks like he's doing "more with less" at Vandy.
There are a lot of options that don't come with Muschamp's baggage and mouth.
I think CBJ would be a MUCH better coach if he'd surround himself with better Coordinators (not sure Azanni is all that good of a WR coach, either). He's having to try and get by with a below average DC, and an OC who doesn't have the sense to throw fade and fly routes to our taller WR's, rather than our midgets. Who throws out in the flat, near the LOS (rather than near the marker) on a critical 3rd and 8.Jones has been hesitant to replace players who aren't performing. Bullard isn't. James isn't consistent at all. McCullers is playing terrible.
That doesn't encourage me when it comes to replacing asst's which may be necessary for the program to move forward.
Jones himself... I think he's a great rep for UT. His style is attractive to players and recruits. He seems to be a good leader. His work with supporters and former players is outstanding. In every way you can... I respect what HE has done so far... except for some personnel decisions.
However the DC and D staff are getting outclassed... badly.
I understand man I really do but the fact remains, You can't polish a turd...CBJ needs to get these players out of here and get his own players in there to run his system and compete....I have no doubt he will succeed here but it is not going to happen over night...He is not a magician...He can't make cake out of crap...It will take some time.
