Any better than Dooley?

For all of you delusional fans, here are the facts :
1. Tennessee played 4 teams this season that are currently ranked in the Top 10 of the BCS
2. Vanderbilt has played 2 teams in the BCS top ten.
3. Tennessee also played Oregon
4. Vandy played a bunch of nobody's for their 3 non- conference games
5. Next year, Tennessee plays Oklahoma on the road
6. Not saying James Franklin isn't a good coach because obviously he is, but given the same schedule, CBJ probably could have produced the same # of wins. Franklin has had 4 years to install his system and change the culture at Vandy.

If your expectation for next season is 7 or 8 wins, your setting yourself up for disappointment once again. CBJ inherited a train wreck and we must be patient and give him at least 3 years before judging him. He is recruiting better than anyone since Fulmer in the mid to late 90's. He can't change the " losing " culture instilled by Dooley in less than 1 year. Please be patient and give him some time!

Agree that Butch wins as many games as Franklin with that schedule. Like UT, Franklin got blown out when he played top teams, Mizzou and TAM.
Also, Franklin hasn't been there 4 years, only 3....

Are you assuming a loss to Kentucky? I could go into a whole slate of reasons why this program is better now than when CBJ took over. I could also try to explain... again... why CBJ is a not just better than Dooley, but a really good coach, but I am worn out trying to get some on here to see that you can take this season and measure it in a vacuum. Time will tell if I am wrong, but I think it's way too early to bail on this coach. I think that maybe if we hadn't been through LK and DD people would be more patient with CBJ. :peace2:

So far his report card suggest otherwise.

If win/loss is all that's on your report card then obviously I can't disagree with your statement. But if that's the only criteria you are using in the first year you are being foolish. This program was a train wreck (still is in many ways) and sometimes you have to make changes that may not show up immediately in win/loss column. You, sjt, tm3 wylo and some of the others that are railing on the record and want coaching changes in year 1 for some reason don't understand team dynamics and how playing in a losing program can create a losing culture. That is Butch's biggest challenge to overcome and he's trying to do it with a team that lacks talent and ability to compete at the highest levels of the SEC. I'm sure I'll get the redundant "those are just excuses" line from this crew. Call it what you want, but it is the state of the program and won't change until the new coach and staff gets a new group of players in here and can instill a winning attitude. UT has been lazy all the way back to Fulmer's final years and it is a process to get it turned around. I'm through trying to explain this as I have done so a few times before. My viewpoint is built upon playing this game all the way up through a D1 level in college. Having moved a lot growing up I have played with teams that know how to win and those that don't have a winner's approach to the game. And believe me there is a huge difference. Butch has "it" but this team does not. You can see it in his face on the sideline that it is killing him that these guys won't compete the way he expects them to. He doesn't have the depth to bench them, nor does he have the depth to push the team to get enough improvement at practice.

I could write a book about what the issues are but I'd be wasting my time with you guys. So I think I'm just going to sign off on the argument. Butch is a great coach and will do good things here. I think it's beyond foolish for you guys to be judging him before he has had adequate time to change the course of this program. But this is America and you can state your opinions as you see fit.

Dude did you copy paste that from a Dooley thread?

Nope, not a Dooley supporter. Gave him an opportunity but it was clear to me that he didn't have what it takes to win in the SEC. As for your response, there's just not much to it and it would be beneficial for you to move on. Dooley's not here any more.

Reviving this post. I still think this is a valid question especially when looking at other coaches success in the conference (Stoops, Freese).

Is this guy just good with PR and slogans? We absolutely should have won this game.

When SEC rivals set new records against team 117 it is not improvement. We simply have not improved one iota under Jones and it has me concerned that this turn around (if we are having one) is going to be a lot longer than many of us have the stomach for.

Fire away...

Dooley chased the alumni away. Dooley didn't like recruiting the state of Tennessee -- or couldn't be bothered, anyway. Dooley didn't like being interactive with the fans any more than he had to. Dooley was almost always negative about Tennessee's situation. Dooley installed a sense of losing and didn't have any idea of how to fix it. Dooley didn't inspire an entire stadium to dress in orange or white specifically for a checkerboard stadium. I guess he inspired people to cheer about ... pants. Pants and orange ceramic dogs? Or something.

Is Butch better than Dooley? Hell yes he's better than Dooley. I'd take Butch every time. Because, and this is important to me, I *KNOW* Butch wants to make it better. I *KNOW* Butch isn't going to take this losing sitting down. He may lose the program in the end, he may fail to right the ship someday, but right now, I know he's thinking about how to make it better and forming a plan to execute against. The man steps into a crater of a program and has to rebuild recruiting relationships, has to rebuild the program's identity, and (yes also) has to win. Butch is fine in my book. He's got a long way to go, but he's fine.

But we have not WON anything except the lucky win vs SC last year.

So we should not beat Florida?
They aren't ranked, we were favored. Who is the Dip S&&&& now?

Line opened at -1 Florida

Betting moved the line.

Home field is worth 3 points. We weren't a heavy favorite.

Loss is on Worley. He blew it twice. Both INTs were terrible choices that cost us game winning FG attempts.

INT from 12 yard line inexcusable especially after last week's fumble in end zone and 2 turnovers at OU that resulted in 14 points.

Sack/Fumble that gave UF 7 today was nearly identical to play in Norman.

Bama should've beat Ole Miss. I guess Saban is no better than Dooley and should be fired.. We lost a game we shouldn't have. It sux but it happens, especially when you're young and rebuilding..

Remain calm.. This is a process. We WILL get better!

CBJ and Co can flat out recruit but the question is whether they can coach a lick. To this point they have not shown any exceptional coaching prowess.

I understand a coach named Saban will be fired tomorrow by fan base (or maybe just have his shrubbery poisoned) . Maybe should sign him to a 1 year turn it or lose it contract.

Thats on our goofy OC. And that completely changed the complexion of the game. Absolutely no reason whatsoever to call a slow developing pass play with our OL when we have all of the mo and the D hasnt let UF in FG range yet.

The picks are on Worley.
