Any better than Dooley?

Dooley should have beat LSU in his first year but didn't.
Dooley beat Cincy when he played Jones with this talent we see on the field now.

Jones almost beat UGA (minus two of their best O players). We did beat SC with a great play by North but every other competitive game has been a blowout and now we are seeing the team flat out give up.

I love the energy Jones brings, the cute slogans etc. but lets be honest....Dooley would have fared just as well this year. We see the exact same level of intensity that Dooley produced with pretty much the exact same results.

When SEC rivals set new records against team 117 it is not improvement. We simply have not improved one iota under Jones and it has me concerned that this turn around (if we are having one) is going to be a lot longer than many of us have the stomach for.

Fire away...

Dooley wouldn't have come remotely close to beating South Carolina this year.

I don't know how long many of the posters on this site are but I suspect the average age to be about 25. I have a bit more time watching Tennessee football and I can tell you that even during Majors growing pains the team was almost always competitive.

Exactly.

Talent is not the reason we look like we belong in division 2. Sure, we may be in the biotin third or so in the sec talent-wise. But we look like we don't even belong in the conference. Absolutely pathetic

I like Jones too, however I think his slogans are and have been corny and annoying, and now that we are getting trounced every week,it makes them even worse. I dont know how I feel about his keeping silent commits and unveiling them after a blowout loss. I understand why he is doing it,it just feels kinda like he is trying to play the fan base. To be fair, Dooley had an incredibly talented QB,two of the best wide receivers I have ever seen in orange, and a competent defensive coordinator, when we smoked Cinci. Jones has none of those things now.

Jones, Bielema, Stoops didn't get their new coaching gigs for inheriting great talent. Better than Dooley? Yes, because we have already beaten a ranked team. Something Doofus never could do.

This defense is every bit as bad as last year's. The offense is worse. The special teams coverage is worse. The kicker has improved. The effort is about the same. The players are mostly the same. The results, not unexpectedly, are essentially the same.

I think that the record will be another 5-7 year. Hopefully, it won't slip to 4-8. Next year will be slightly better I think. This is a 4-5 year rebuild.

Majors was 4-7 his first season. He had non-winning seasons in 3 of his first 4 seasons. Rebuilding jobs never happen immediately.

The program was a mess when Majors came back. It was in every bit as much of a mess when Butch arrived.

I don't like losing either, but you have to give a new coach time.

It is not 1977 anymore. Like it or not coaches have 3 or 4 years to prove themselves with improvement.

We are not any better off now than we were last year, particularly on D.

Gus and Saban seemed to have shown improvement in one and 2 years respectively. I am not saying we have to win the conference but show improvement for gods sake.

Not giving up on Jones yet, just a bit concerned that we are looking at 4 years before being competitive.

I agree...the blind loyalty here toward butch is sickening.....it was just like this as well when Dooley was here.....anyone loyal to butch at this point should go join a cult...guy has proven zero so far...only bright spot Is recruiting...

I am loyal because he is our freakin coach, and he has done more in 10 months than anyone has done in the last 4 years. This line of thinking is silly. I really question some people that follow our team.

Something fundamentally wrong with this oxymoronic statement

You are right that its not 1977 anymore. The SEC is light years more competitive now than back then.

Then give the guy 3 or 4 years, and stop expecting a miracle in the first season.

If nothing else, remember this.

Dooley had CP, Hunter, Rivera and Bray, and still found a way to lose. He never beat a ranked team in 16 or so tries. Couldn't even back his way to a win with blind luck.

Dooley was a loser with a losing resume.

CBJ beat a ranked team in his 7th game. CBJ has a winning resume.

CBJ may not be the end-all, be-all, but he is for sure, no question, positively, better than Dooley.

PS-we have shown improvement. We beat a ranked team for the first time since Fulmer was the coach.

4-5 years to improve? Jones won't last unless he shows some improvement. My god some on here think I am crying because we are not heading for the SECCG. I am only questioning lack of noticeable improvement.
