Another reported assault

Here's another hit piece by The Tennessean about old allegations.

With Dave Hart at helm, FSU athletics mishandled rape claim

Wouldn't be surprised if they write an article about Peyton mooning that athletic trainer soon.

"The allegation was ultimately taken to police by Johnson's girlfriend, and he was charged criminally and then acquitted during trial."

Why bury this halfway through the article?

If he was innocent, then why does this ultimately matter?

So the victim can be victimized further? How about keeping them anonymous until the charges or proven false? If your sister or mom was raped, how would you want them treated in the public and media?
And... what if it was your son/brother/father accused how would you want them treated in the media prior to the charges being proven?
I've tried to be a voice here on VN and I catch all kinds of hell for it. Arguing for true equality among the genders is like asking for too much right now in today's society. You are right though, either release neither person's name or release both of their names, but you can't/shouldn't have what we have right now. That seems like common sense to me, but some people see that as hate speech or chauvinism.
Yep!

We lose with good kids, everyone wants thugs. We start to get some good momentum and arrests start happening. Everyone complains. God I love this place.

we are being very picky arent we?
I think we were hoping our football thugs might be up a frat boy or band geek or something like that. I dont think anyone of us were bargaining for rape.

When a man accuses a woman of raping him, I think his name should be kept out of the media also unless his claim is proven false. That's equality.

If it was my daughter we are going to the cops

I sit as a Judge in criminal court and have presided over many sexual assault cases. I also have daughters.

I think if your daughter found herself involved in a she said, he said situation and you knew what she would endure in a criminal court you would be less certain.

The presumption of innocence and the obligation that a prosecution be proven beyond a reasonable doubt makes conviction in matters where there is little corroborating evidence and often mutual alcohol consumption very, very difficult. Some complainants find the trial experience therapeutic but I believe it is much more likely to be extremely traumatic whatever the outcome.

I can assure you every situation is unique and there are very seldom easy answers.

I haven't read everything so this is the only thing I'm going to say about this situation.

It seems contradictory to me that the family does NOT want much press, to try to protect their daughter, so they didn't report the incident to the police and then they go to the newspapers when it seems they didn't get the end results against the boy they hoped to get.

I also have to wonder about the girl that seems so upset and then turns around and goes right back to frat parties.

Assault/rape is a horrid thing and if it goes to court and they're found guilty beyond doubt then they deserve everything they get.

Being drunk is no excuse for either party.

I feel sorry for everyone involved in a situation like this because everyone loses.

Also making false accusations should have serious repercussions because the innocent suffer greatly too.

When have you ever heard of a male rape victim being outed?

Wasn't talking about that. Where'd you come up with that? Was referring to the fact that while the victims are rightfully protected and not outed..... the accused are publicly reported to be under investigation from the get. Even if they're found not guilty, where do they go to get their reputation back?

EXACTLY! IMO this is the reason it goes immediately to law enforcement. If one is falsely accused, there is no evidence or a conviction, the state can file charges against the accuser and the accused can and should seek damages in civil court. As it stands in this specific situation the accuser has no skin in the situation.

It's amazing how a typo of one character can throw some of you geniuses for such a loop. Do you grammar monitors have to be spoonfed strained baby food also? Frigging imbeciles.

I think spoon fed should be two words. :victory:

Clearly you mis-read what he wrote. Go back and read what you quoted and the quote he was responding to.

Here, I'll make it easier for you…

I don't see why that wouldn't be the case.

But it's not
