Here is the series of Amerson's INTs David Amerson 2011 Int Series.wmv - YouTube

Every INT outside of #7 and #8 (#7 was where the QB threw it to him with no WR within 10 yds and #8 was a dropped pass by a WR that got INT'd) were either with the WR being double covered or with a safety over the top. Good luck in attacking this passing offense like that.

I always get a chuckle when I see these types of game by game breakdowns and discounting of accomplishments.

Then you must be in stitches on the Pack board w/ some of the goofy stuff I have seen linked from there.

I will never forget going to a coaching clinic, and the guy told us that 9 times out of 10 the corner with the most INTs is the guy you need to attack. He may get you once but there's a reason he has so many INTs and that's because teams feel like they can pick on him. (hopefully Jay post in this thread because I'm sure he has heard something similar)

Every year we face some 3rd tier team (not that UT isn't total crap until we prove otherwise) that has a couple of relatively competent players that they try their damnest to get on the heisman ballot. We face our little neighbor Georgia every year . Their whole team is loaded with this kind of talent and we don't worry about it. NCst has nothing to challenge the Vols if we play focused and take care of business. Don't even bring up that qb , he'll be looking at the ceiling of the dome most of the game.

How's their DLine?

Doesn't sound too good...

Scout.com: 2012 NC State Preview - The Time Is Now

What to look for on defense: The Pack to get run on more than a broken-armed catcher. NC State is facing an imperfect storm on defense. The defensive tackles are unproven sophomores. The linebackers have been gutted to the studs. And since the secondary is terrific, opponents will be content to play smash-mouth football. The Wolfpack will know what’s coming, yet still might not stand a chance. Since the corners can hold up in man-coverage, look for the safeties, Earl Wolff and Brandan Bishop, to spend as much time as possible near the line of scrimmage.

Can't remember who Montana kept touting last year. I do remember that every single post closed with something along the lines of "you're welcome for Mariani."

Their biggest accomplishment was one special teams player in the NFL.

I recognize that NC State is a whole lot better than Montana, so don't jump to that nonsense.

They kept hyping tru johnson and all I remember him doing is getting stiff armed by Lane as he dove in the endzone.

What's going to happen is cJC is going to toss short passes to Rivera & DR and ram it down their throats with the running game until they commit to plug those cracks. Then once they creep up to try and counter that, Dooley unleashes his track guys. Unless of course we are retarded and can't design a common sense game plan.

Good luck with that. Amerson will probably be the first CB off the board in the 2013 NFL draft.

Almost guarantee he won't... not because of his ability but because of his system. If he doesn't get to prove he can cover in man then he won't be first taken.

I am not saying he is not good, because he is a good ball player.

Most interception are poorly thrown balls, wrong routes & tipped passes.

This is my opinion. Just look at how many great d-backs have just a few interceptions, does this mean they are bad or not being thrown at.

I disagree with you. CBs and Ss tend to be fast, anticipative, position strategists, and often athletic.
Back in 1971 the Vols secondary good. Opposing coaches were saying when you threw the ball Tennessee had as much a chance of getting it as the receivers. Further likes of Lem Barney, Ronnie Lott, Deion Sanders, and Willie Brown are indicative of the very type of tendencies I speak of.

One reason teams including our Vols, favor big, tall, and stronger receivers is they often must fight the defender for position and the ball. Even the skinny Hunter literally wrestled the ball from an Oregon defender two years ago. An elite quarterback can "thread" passes because he has to except when a receiver manages true separation from the defender.

Now, in Amerson's case from what few video clips I've bothered to watch, he is unique. Somewhat like our 1971 Vols CBs and Ss. You throw the ball and he becomes a receiver more than a defender. He certainly has good hands and can jump.

Now, I agree when our posters question the quality of QBs and receivers he's gone up against. But I'm also respect his play. Some of the most dangerous pass defenders have come from "little" schools, littler than NCSU as a matter of fact. Grambling State comes to mind.

Could care less about how good the secondary is. If their defense can't get to Bray...he should pick them apart.

Every defense has holes no matter how good they are. If they don't pressure Bray he'll find the holes and pick them apart.
People often overlook the fact that a good pass rush is nearly as important to a good pass defense as a good secondary. The DBs can't cover the receivers forever. Doesn't matter how good they are.

Bart Starr Vince Lombardi had that idea about the rookie, Lem Barney. They got over that misconception darn fast.
