Amerson and the NC St. secondary

Amerson is great but not State's only DB. Safety Earl Wolff (love his last name) is preseason all conference and the entire secondary is made up of Seniors and one Junior. That one Junior is Amerson.
The SEC has been the best conference in CFB for several years now. The ACC has settled in just above the Big East among BCS conferences. Mid-major conferences are producing teams like Boise and TCU who would win the ACC.

I am sure these are good players. I am also sure they would not start for the top tier D's in the SEC. Part of that is the system. Part is pure talent- speed, quickness, strength.

Also, State led the nation in INTs and was second in turnovers forced.
And.... nowhere near the top 20 in any other category. If Bray hits 60%+ like 5 of the better teams you played last year (two were over 73%) then I would give you a couple of picks. You will lose in a laugher. UT's QB and WR's are better than the two that went over 70% against you.

It should be great fun to watch the 1s battle, Amerson (#1) vs. Hunter (#11).
Amerson cannot match up with Hunter. Even if he could, that unleashes the other guys on the rest of your secondary. Neither is a good scenario for you.

I always get a chuckle when I see these types of game by game breakdowns and discounting of accomplishments. By this thought process Chris Johnson should be terrible because he played Conference USA opponents all the time.
It never ceases to amaze how oblivious some are to how much more difficult it is to win and have good stats in the SEC than in the bottom half of the BCS.

The SEC has won 8 of the 14 BCS CG's. The SEC is 8-1 in CG's. Every other conference has a losing record in the CG. ONLY FSU has made it from the ACC and the last time was 2000.

Three weeks from tomorrow, Vol fans. :)

IF Dooley can coach... you will not know what hit you.

Every defense has holes no matter how good they are. If they don't pressure Bray he'll find the holes and pick them apart.
People often overlook the fact that a good pass rush is nearly as important to a good pass defense as a good secondary. The DBs can't cover the receivers forever. Doesn't matter how good they are.

Your only as strong as your weakest link. If their DL and LB's struggle. Amerson will not get as many picks this year and his stock may slip some.......

8-1 in nc ... Guess the reason for the one in the loss column.
Well at least the rest of college football can say the sec is not perfect despite the reason behind it!!

I will not be one bit surprised if our first offensive play is a pass to whoever he is unfortunate enough to cover. Just to set the tone.

Every year we face some 3rd tier team (not that UT isn't total crap until we prove otherwise) that has a couple of relatively competent players that they try their damnest to get on the heisman ballot. We face our little neighbor Georgia every year . Their whole team is loaded with this kind of talent and we don't worry about it. NCst has nothing to challenge the Vols if we play focused and take care of business. Don't even bring up that qb , he'll be looking at the ceiling of the dome most of the game.

Very underrated post

With hunter and patterson putting pressure on the perimeter of the field and rogers/rivera owning the middle I look for alot of off tackle plays to be favorable especially to the left would seem to be bread and butter behind tiny!!! If that oline has improved as much as we are hearing im looking forward to seeing a hat on a hatvand some of those hogs getting downfield to pancake a safety!!

I think our depth offensively shows up big time in the second half... We build a three score lead and let those athletes at lb go to town!! Personally I see the georgia game shaping up in a similar fashion... I highly doubt the lead will be quite as large.... But the oline has to replace some kids they now have to play their best receiver both ways and we get a much needed win!!! 10 wins is doable with such favorable scheduling in comparison with recent years.. If we could somehow put thay defense in the top 20 and we stay healthy for the year it could look alot
like 06' with all that depth at receiver and another rocket of an arm... I will be disappointed if we dont come out with an attitude and set the tone for what should be a stellar season in the Dome..

Well really it all starts up front. They might have a very good secondary, but you can't cover a guy forever. If they don't get to Bray, he's going to carve them up like a thanksgiving day turkey. Dline is a question for them. Oline is probably going to be a strength for Tennessee. On the surface, the match ups don't favor State.

The wild card is how well will the Tennessee defense play. If they can hold their own, this one should be a win.

He can't out jump Hunter or over power Da'Rick! Hopefully we can run the ball and see how good he is at getting run over in the running game! If their front seven is as weak as I have read then that should take him out of the picture!

I say we have Da'Rick run the end around 20 times like we did his freshman year. Since we obviously can't pass on these cats.

They walk there DB up and Bray throws for 400 yrds + with ease. Hunter and Patterson will be running to the inside and down field all night.

Bama & LSU are the teams who can attempt to press us. Laughing at any other team trying. Then there is the issue of how many safeties they keepback. No safety is a Td. Period. 1 is a Td if the Qb looks him off. Two deep or some sort of Cover-2 will slow us down but they are not equipped to stop us from scoring. Just dont see it. Who on their team is impressive? Those defensive stats had to be looked up because no one knew outside of Carolina. Blow out.

We are selling Amerson short. He is a beast and top ten pick. BUT he can only cover one person at a time.
