Ament will improve

How did he look yesterday? I was busy
A little sloppy with TOs (he had 4), but offensively, he looked as engaged and assertive as he's looked all year. 23 pts, 7 rebs, 2 assts, 2 blks.

Back-to-back games where he has really played well. Over the past two games, he's had 40 points, 11 rebs, 3 assts, 3 blks. He also has hit 14-17 FTs. Still not very efficient shooting the ball (11-27 shooting, 2-8 from 3), but he's being more aggressive.

Just as a point of clarification, Ament’s 4 credited TOs were all on him, individually, as they took place on the floor. The inbound 5-sec violations do not count as individual TOs, rather they are considered "team" TOs.

Additionally, the first inbound 5-sec violation was entirely on Ament. He stood in place like he thought it was a dead-ball out of bounds instead of running the baseline to help get someone open. To add to that, he has to have an internal clock going and he has struggled with that. The second two violations were a collaborative effort of not getting a TO called and no one getting open. Having a freshman tasked with that inbound role isn't the best idea against a team like A&M.
That first one was about an 8-second count and he still didn’t get it in.

The first half turnovers attributed to him had more to do with the inbound recipients not cutting to get ball or not using screens effectively. Clearly TN had not prepped for that kind of pressure on the inbounds. IMO and I don’t know that I have ever criticized Barnes or staff on here before fwiw
They did work on it. Barnes talked about it post game.

I have been pretty rough on his play for a couple of weeks; expecting more than he was giving, especially in his ball handling. However, , especially in the last game, he played much more aggressivelyon both offense and defense. he had a couple of turnovers, but kept the team in the game and won in 2 overtimes. We would not have won that game without him. I truly believe that game was a difference make for him this season. I believe his play in the future will continue to improve and we will put a better team on the floor than we saw in December and early January.
