Ament will improve

I'll be the first to admit I've been very critical about Ament.

But these last 2 games and especially tonight, it seems that switch may have finally flipped. I love seeing him be aggressive and attacking to get to the paint area. This is what I've wanted to see. Now if he could cut down on his turnovers we'll be good to go with him.

Definitely coming around. Let's see if it's lasting and contagious.

Ament would thrive at the 4 if the refs are calling touch fouls as they did tonight. Ament would struggle at the 4 if the refs are letting muggings go without calling obvious fouls as they did tonight.

In this point of the season, I think the 4 is where Ament looked more comfortable.

He’s not quick enough to drive by defenders and shoot behind the arc at an efficient level. That’s not his game.

Might as well stick with what’s working.

He had an abysmal first half. I was at the game and he just looked so lackadaisical on the court. He still had some of that the second half and still seemed hesitant at times to want the ball, but he had a great second half. Teams cant stop him one on one if he goes hard to the rack. I really wish he would’ve backed some of those smaller guys down but he doesn’t seem to like doing that. Great game overall by the kid though.

The freshmen coming around is the factor that can save this team. Henderson played most of crunch time and played well. That gives JG the ability to rest. Also adds another shooter to the floor and allows JG to play off the ball at times. Ament is coming around. Evans has been our best overall player in a couple of games. And while Brown didn't play much last night, we've all seen what he can be. He might have the best touch around the rim of any of our bigs.

If those guys keep progressing at this rate, they'll all 4 be something by March. This was a really good recruiting class by Barnes. Wish we'd have a chance to see Ament as a sophomore with the other 3.

Good game for him... I haven't been as down on him as most but he still got to cut his t/o's down (3 or 4 in the 1st 4 min of the game last night). And hopefully his play last night was not just because they had a 6' 3" guy guarding him again like UL.

The first half turnovers attributed to him had more to do with the inbound recipients not cutting to get ball or not using screens effectively. Clearly TN had not prepped for that kind of pressure on the inbounds. IMO and I don’t know that I have ever criticized Barnes or staff on here before fwiw

Just as a point of clarification, Ament’s 4 credited TOs were all on him, individually, as they took place on the floor. The inbound 5-sec violations do not count as individual TOs, rather they are considered "team" TOs.

Additionally, the first inbound 5-sec violation was entirely on Ament. He stood in place like he thought it was a dead-ball out of bounds instead of running the baseline to help get someone open. To add to that, he has to have an internal clock going and he has struggled with that. The second two violations were a collaborative effort of not getting a TO called and no one getting open. Having a freshman tasked with that inbound role isn't the best idea against a team like A&M.
