Ament will improve

Of course not but every player has lapses...JP has rebounded really well for us this year so I'll stick with the stats and play the odds with him going forward vs. obsessing over 2 plays.
I’m not obsessing and of course want him to play well. Barnes benched him for exactly those reasons. Take it up with him.

Need to play JP 25+ min...pair him Okpara and Carey then play Brown as needed off the bench to contribute and continue his development. It seems he is a bit in the doghouse for whatever reason atm...hopefully he comes around to the staff's expectations and/or the staff relents a bit recognizing we sorely need him on the court as our most efficient and dependable scorer, willing passer, rebounder and (yes) I think his defense will continue to improve.
JP is currently 9th in the NCAA in True Shooting Percentage....

Yep...JP may be have felt like he would be allowed to get the DK and Chaz treatment from the staff. Right or wrong, CRB is trying to make a point to him. I'm just surprised because JP's been around the program so long he knows the expectations and he seems like he has some fire.

That's what I'd guess, as well. Just no way TN pays him what we paid this year unless someone with throwaway money just feels like being irresponsible with it, which I support 😀.
A player like him could be totally awesome as a sophomore. He needs more muscle and strength. Certainly needs a meaner attitude which would all come I believe by next season.

I wouldn’t be excited about it, but sure he can improve. Would he? No clue. I thought so at first, but the problem is a lot of the issue seems to be mentality. That might not be fixable.
After he sat awhile the other day, he came back in and played more aggressively. That's why I got to think Barnes must be thinking of bring him off the bench

He’s a great asset on offense but that stat doesn’t take into account mistakes on the defensive end and rebounding. 2 lazy efforts on rebounds alone gave them 5 points, including a momentum changing dunk which got the crowd into it. Hard to put a value on plays like that.
I don't disagree but this team desperately needs help on offense, and it isn't coming from Okpara.

I hope so and I hope it works. He seems like a good kid and it’s easy for us to say he should do this and that, but it’s tough on a freshman. Part of what hurts him is he’s apparently in what could be the best freshman class ever. It’s crazy how many good ones are playing.

He’s not who we thought he was. Oh well. When Gillespie, Carey and Estrella are on, this team can beat anyone. When they’re off, it’s tough sledding. Unless something changes in a big way, a tournament run will not be made on the back of Ament.

Can we not get Mashacks mom on the payroll to be his personal counselor to get his head right?
Great idea, but I don’t think his limitations are mental. He’s behind the curve physically maturing into his height which will only be cured with time. I’ve arrived at not expecting anything of substance from him this season and will be pleasantly surprised if he improves significantly this year. He needs to become a minor player on this team until he can settle into a productive role. Whatever points he scores are being offset by TO’s and bad fouls ATM. JMO

Yep. He's very laid back and yeah....passive. No dog in the kid. Barnes got infatuated with what he thought was KD II and made an impulse buy. I'm sure if he had a redo, he'd spend what it took to get Rice. Won't surprise me if this might be the trigger that pushes Barnes into retirement.

Yeah that's ridiculous. It's not a difficult argument to make that he isn't even one of the five best players on our team.

That might be a little hyperbole, but he is 11th in FG%, 9th in 3PT%, and has the most turnovers. His shot volume alone has inflated his PPG.
