There’s no need to sugarcoat the obvious. People described our entire football team as soft this year. JP has been playing soft. Ament has as well. Even admitted not giving effort all the time, which is what mentally soft does..take plays off. Adjustment, age, tweaked ankle, lack of confidence, etc all are reasons sure. Last couple games he’s played differently and had a different look on his face. Glad to see it.

So what? Some develop differently, and he was still producing. A majority of those play a different position, and Ament has better numbers than Peat. Our team HAS to rely on him to produce, especially if Gillespie struggles.

Just unreasonable.

Basketball ebbs and flows more than any of the major sports. It happens from one game to the next and even throughout each game. That’s part of what makes it exciting.

If he was soft mentally, he wouldn’t be changing right before our eyes. He would’ve cashed it in, collected his money and moved on to the NBA.

He was net negative player for multiple losses. That’s not production.

At the end of day March is all that matters - if he can continue the performance last night moving forward then it won’t matter anyways.

If you’re talking about the first sentence, I stupidly said this would last a month. A week would’ve been punitive enough. A month is brutal. But, a bet is a bet. Walkenvol got me! I’d rather be wrong than right though. Sometimes I wonder about other posters on here.

Who else on the team was ‘net negative’ in losses? Gillespie hasn’t been elite, and he’s a senior all-conference player. He’s not making chump change. The narrative is ridiculous. Will end it at that.

I mean, sort of. Our seeding could still be better if he’d played better earlier.

But I wish for once we’d be one of those teams that gets hot in March and then the bracket opens up. We’ve never had both at the same time.

The bracket opened up for us the years we lost to Loyola and to FAU. But we couldn’t beat Loyola on a last second shot (we were fouled, no call, AND Kyle Alexander was out), and we lost ZZ to injury the year FAU went to the F4. Then the last 2 years, we played well, but the chalk held and we couldn’t get past the 1 seed. The 2024 team was a F4 team, but we had to play one of the 2 best teams in America in the E8. And got no breaks.

Maybe this year, we can be one of those 4 or 5 seeds that plays its best ball in March and gets a break or two in the bracket to make a F4.

That would be described as selfish, which Ament is not. It’s more likely with all the help he’s had on and off the court, he has grown mentally the last 3 months. He’s also not giving up on his drive after the first bump, which was a mental and physical obstacle.
Feel like teams may start forcing him right more often. He likes to go left to get to the paint and see what happens. Doesn’t seem as comfortable being aggressive on his right hand.

I didn't come to complain about someone else's post first, so I hope this is allowed on here:
The biggest improvements I've seen (to my amateur eye):
1. Defense - still gets beat by some smaller dudes, but that's improving & he is not getting pushed around in the post nearly as much
2. Offense - aggressive, but more importantly aggressive to a spot. In the past few games he has pushed to a spot - 5 ft, elbow, 8ft in the lane, baseline 10 ft - and if there is a 2nd defender he pulls up instead of charging all the way. He is picking his shots & as a result he is making his shots.

2a. But he is also welcoming contact. He is so good at getting fouled with his shots because he keeps the ball high when he gathers. Good look blocking that.

3. Rebounds & passing: he has always been good at these, especially for a freshman, but he has shown more decisiveness with both the last few games.

4. Turnovers: he stopped showing the ball to his defender, and is now keeping them on his hip or back. He was getting stripped x2/game at the start of the year on gathers and shots. Now, in my likely-arbitrary-memory, that has happened x1 in the last 3 games.

5. Demeanor: before, he looked like he was trying to track 100 things each play and couldn't keep up. Now, he's like - "Bama, Track this!"

(more aggressive, confident, and choosing where to stress the defense instead of just reacting)
