Alvin Kamara Appreciation Thread (merged)

Great, Le'Veon Bell has the same ypc and for a much better offense than Fournette. You do realize that NO is universally considered one of the, if not the, best OL in the league? Doesn't mean Kamara and Ingram aren't good but they've got a hell of an easier road than Fournette.

And by way of comparison here's the rest of your top projections for rookie RB:

James Conner-too small sample before injury, which is a shame
Joe Mixon-3.3ypc
Christian McCaffrey-3.7
Matt Breida-3.9
Jamaal Williams-3.6
Samaje Perine-3.5

And Fournette's the league's #8 total rusher and one of only 6 averaging 80+ypg. Fournette's doing just fine.

I guess you guys just ignored the next sentence after I mentioned Fournette's YPC average. I said "compared to Alvin he is mediocre." Never said he was having a worse season than all the other RBs I liked in the draft over him.

Compared to Alvin Kamara, Leonard Fournette is mediocre. We'll see how he does versus those other players moving forward. I see believe based on film that Conner and Mixon are better RBs. I love the potential of Matt Brieda and Jamaal Williams to be better. Samaje Perine is not as talented as Fournette, but I believe he'll have a longer career.

And finally, I am willing to say Christian McCaffrey is not who I thought he was. I wasn't as high as everyone else on him. But I thought he would be more effective. He's shown no ability to run the ball effectively between the tackles. And he looks a lot smaller and less athletic on the field in the NFL than he did in college. He might only be a Danny Woodhead type player moving forward.

I know exactly what you wrote so tell me, and without citing some kind of garbage about your "eye", how is citing Fournette at 4.0ypc different than citing Bell at 4.0ypc? Also, (and again, because you're apparently the one in need of reading skills) Fournette is tasked with being a workhorse on an offense that isn't nearly as good as those found in Pittsburgh or NO. The lines aren't nearly as good (especially compared to NO) and it's hilarious to think defenses play the run the same way with Blake F'ing Bortles at QB vs two future HOF's in Big Ben and Brees.

It takes nothing away from Kamara's accomplishments to say you're undervaluing Fournette's accomplishments, especially in light of comparing him to all your other rookie RB predictions.

Fournette doesn't impress me. You want me to lie? If a guy I think isn't good before the draft surpasses my expectations, I admit I was wrong. Fournette is what I thought he was. Average.

Le'Veon Bell is having an average season so I don't know why you keep citing him. His production is more of a result from quantity than quality.

Bell is the best back in the league. Who do you think it is, Kamara? Alex Collins because of his ypc?

IDK, stuff like this maybe?

Not really. Breakaway speed is not among the most important attributes for a RB. Vision, iexplosion through the hole, and making people miss are far more important. Then you have things like pass catching and blocking.

Le'Veon Bell is arguably the best RB in the NFL and he ran 4.6 at the combine.

What impresses you doesn't mean squat when you're trying to present an argument and people can counter with a better one. The ONLY person on your rookie RB list that has anything demonstrable on Fournette is Kamara and he's asked to do far, FAR less than Fournette is while playing in a vastly better environment. Hell, at this point Alvin hasn't even accumulated the necessary carries to even have his numbers recognized in many archived categories. Not saying that's his fault but it does put some perspective on the load he's carrying vs a bunch of the other backs.

Let's put a face on this; if Fournette is average every RB* on your list besides Alvin you said was better is below average. Your eye means nothing in this discussion BTW...show your work or fail the test.

*It's fair to hold off on Conner for now as he literally only has one good game worth of stats to work with and is currently injured.

Also, D4H, when Fournette or Amari Cooper has a dominant season and you try to claim that they WERE average and magically became good at football over one offseason, you will deserve every single bit of ridicule that you get. People are already doing that with Gurley and it’s insane.

Don’t think people don’t notice the hedging when you say they’re average “right now.” Statements like that are usually made by the people who look at stats and DON’T watch film.

Look. I'm not impressed by Amari Cooper and Leonard Fournette. They don't jump off the screen to me like Alvin Kamara does. You can hype them up because they were popular players in college and came into the NFL with a lot of fanfare. I forget the college hype and focus only on what you do in the NFL.

So far into their careers, neither looks that good. Average or Above Average, it really doesn't matter to me. I just don't find them to be very good.

That’s fine, just be consistent. When they put up great seasons, don’t try to claim you were right about them being average but they magically became good later. That’s all I’m saying. I can see it coming

Quoted for reference. Right out of the gate this validates Boss and Goff, right?

Who gives a turkey, the fact is that Alvin Kamara is in the Pro Bowl and we, as fans, should be proud. Just another in a loooooooong line of NFL talent underutilized by Butch Jones and his BSIA staff. Other players have transferred elsewhere and have done phenominal, they just didn't get the coaching they needed under the previous staff. And I, for one, look forward to see what Coach Jeremy Pruitt and staff can do to coach these 18-24 year olds up. If I were a betting man, I'd have to say that I believe he is a little old school, no-nonsense type of coach. Just what the doctor ordered for this type of team. I have nothing to go on other than his 1st presser, but I get that type of feeling from him.

Of all the accolades that AK receives, I am impressed that AK didn't pout or complain getting underutilized for 2 years. JH bit@$÷d and moaned for 2 years then quit. AK was the better player.

Alvin Kamara is just a great person. We're very lucky to have a guy who is as talented as him yet as humble representing us.

He's a great ambassador for the University of Tennessee.

This is one of the few posts I've ever seen you make that 100% holds up under scrutiny.

Announced today. Way to go AK for killing it as a rookie! Well deserved honor for a VFL! I'd honestly take him over just about any back in the league and that's not just because he's a VFL. Just that good!

Yes it is or you're just severely misinformed
