Ainge......is not a winner!! Period

I know I am gonna get it for this BUT it doesn't matter who is coaching, if you don't have a QB that has fire and emotion you're always gonna be "mediocre"!! Ainge showed no intensity, no emotion and was very lackadaisical with 11 minutes left in the game....I agree he has great stats but he can't throw the deep ball!! I know alot of you are going to disagree with me......but he plays with no enthusiasm and is not a leader!!

COACHING COACHING COACHING - WAKE UP!!!!
THEY PLAY JUST LIKE THEY ARE COACHED.
LOOK AT HOW MANY NFL PLAYERS WE HAVE AND VERY LITTLE TO SHOW FROM IT. COACHING STAFF CANNOT COACH, NEVER COULD.

By their own admission, the offense's stated goal is to score 30 pts a game, they didn't do that so Ainge is partially at fault.

However the defense goal of holding the opposing team to less then 30 pts wasn't even close.

I would tend to agree here. We need a qb with leadership and big game ability, not good stats that have no bearing on the outcome. I was tired of that with Clausen. No, Ainge doesn't play defense but he doesn't or can't do the little things that keep our defense off the field. Ex: 4th and two and he forces that lil pass to left side that's knocked down. Dayum!!, you didn't see the defender. Even if he did, he's no threat to scramble for two yards!!! Give me a break. We punt and the drive is over. The interception was a clear underthrow. I know qb's have picks but he just doesn't have that IT. And we haven't had that IT at QB since Peyton and/or T Martin.

There is no reason we should continue to get out-coached the way we do. The SEC has too many great "minds" in coaching for us to compete with in regards to that. Our offense is stale and predictable, our defense is base and passive and our overall schemes are outdated.

There are many coaches and coordinators who would give their left nut to coach UT ball, but we just allow Fulmer to continue to put a medicore team on the field.

By the way....recruiting is down also.....Wonder why?

Great first post.

ainge is a damned good quarterback. he just needs a team to play for. all the good football teams i have seen had quality on both sides of the ball. the two squads feed off each other. with the defense a chronic no show, just what do you expect? you think that knowing the defense is in the hands of a genius like the chief doesn't affect the attitude of the entire team?

Stat wise, Ainge is in the top 5.

But if you had a choice between Andy Kelly, Heath Shuler, Tee Martin or Casey Clausen... or Erik Ainge, who would you take?

Let's not even bring Peyton, Tony Robinson or Conredge in the discussion.

I'll rank 'em in the order I would prefer to have them. This does not take into account the players who surrounded these players or the coaches who coached them...it's assuming they'd be competently coached and surrounded by the same decent talent:

1. Manning- Of course.
2. Robinson- My favorite Vol ever to watch and possibly the most raw talent ever behind center.
3. Shuler- The arm and running ability were a great combo.
4. Holloway- Never saw him in person, but his highlights are unreal.
5. Ainge- Great arm, very accurate...will make an NFL team very happy.

I don't rank Clausen or Kelly in the top 5 because they both had average to below average arms and Clausen seemed to be an attitude problem. Kelly threw more INT's than TD's in his career and was surrounded by more skill position talent than an QB ever at UT. Martin was a very erratic passer. He gets credit for winning NC, but that TEAM won the NC. Mostly the defense. There's a pretty good sized gap between Ainge and Martin.

Compare Ainge's WR's this year to what Kelly threw to (Pickens, Harper, Morgan, Woods) or even what Tee threw to (Price, Wilson, Parker, Martin) and you'll find they both got a lot more help than Ainge gets. Then consider who each handed off to (Cobb, Webb, Lewis, Henry). Despite all that, Ainge will end up with better #'s and a legitimate NFL career, which Kelly and Martin did not have.

No brainer...Ainge is a top 5 UT QB.

OK, whoever you sent that too......Rick Clausen never gave up, played with intensity, wanted to win no matter what......Ainge plays cowardly football and gives up....he performs well under perfect conditions, I will give him that

Rick had the least amount of talent at QB since Todd Helton, but he got the most out of his ability and I thought he was the best QB that we had when he was here.

here here!! :beerf::rock2:[

I must have missed what position he was playing on defense or kicking teams. Ainge is not our problem. Lack of defensive talent is evident. We do not have SEC caliber linemen, linebackers, or secondary. This is one of the worst defenses I have seen in over 30 years of Vol football.

Agreed....Ainge is fine....this defense is the worst I have ever witnessed since I attended UT in the late 70's and accountability for that should be warranted. Humiliating and embarrassing.....Larry Slade should be hung by his toenails

EA is perfectly adequate as Tenn's qb. He would be better if he had a more talented/better coached supporting cast around him...on both sides of the ball. But *sigh* that isn't likely to happen.

Our defense made it impossible for us to have a chance at a victory. Once they started scoring like crazy we had to abandon our gameplan and try to score fast to play catchup. Our defense lost this game, not Ainge. Ainge is a great player.

Well....Peyton had a few rough days at UT, and a few good ones that were still losses.

We all know what he's done since he arrived in Indiana.

With only four years, sometimes three, to get a young QB to reach his potential...every day counts.

Makes you wonder...is it the QB?...or the coach?

go vols.

he is a great player under perfect condition.....put a lil pressure on him and he goes all to pieces

Ainge = :bad:

Tebow = :superman:

Here's what they're saying on the Bama board that has linked this thread . . .

sounds a little like us three weeks ago, but we never got THIS bad. Thing is, Ainge will probably still be the #1 rated QB in the conference on Monday and he's the reason they lost?
