If he only goes 8-4 with this team then he's never going to get any better than that. Plus - both records goto a bowl - one only goes to a slightly less ****ty bowl... But still ****ty and before new years day.

No he asked me which I would pick. I would rather get a real coach in here which means winning sooner. Dooley has done a good job at getting the roster under control - which is what we hired him to do anyway... If he actually was successful it was just icing on the cake.

So you guys are honestly telling me you would take that 8 wins and 8 wins for the next 5 years rather than take one season with 6 losses in order to get a guy who will return us to 10,11, and 12 win seasons? Lol is all I can say then.

I want every win we can get. And there's not a person on this site or on the team that knows what we'll do the next five years. That's why you build a team and play the games.

8 wins is the bare minimum he should win with this roster - if he doesn't win at least 9 then he's nothing more than an extremely mediocre coach unless he magically grows into a good coach the following seasons.

Sorry, but it's just asking for long term mediocrity to keep him around too much longer. He hasn't shown one positive while being here other than keeping players out of trouble with the law.

No ultimately if you can forecast the future I would want us to return to where we were. But that is my whole point here. Give the man a fair chance and see what he can do. In my opinion he is headed in the right direction. Has there been bumps along the way? Absolutely but I expected that.

If he doesn't by this year or next then I will say I was wrong and we should go another direction.

Regardless of who's the head coach, 8-4 isn't a very good job with the talent on the team right now with the schedule Tennessee has.

I would rather him go 10-2 and shut me up.

Why do you insist on setting up fallacious arguments? Those are not the only choices. he could go 8 wins next year and continue to show progression until we are on top again. See how that works? You have somehow convinced yourself that Dooley will always be a failure. You predict the future and see him as an 8-win max coach. Thus, you ( self-professing Vols fan) are hoping for a 6-win season next year.

Others of us do not. We are hopeful that he will be the guy. So, there is no reason for us to hope for a failure of a season. More so, considering the instability that this program has endured, and the great detriment of more instability, we are extremely hopeful that Dooley turns it around.

You and your sort are an illogical, spoiled and childish lot that can't think straight enough to cheer for their own team.

It's sad and pitiable.

The problem is 8 wins with this team is no better than 5 wins with last years team... It looks better yes.. But compared to what he had last year and what he has now its hardly an improvement. 8-4 is shooting par... If he can get into the 9 or 10 range then he will have proven he may actually be able to cut it here and is a decent coach.

8-4 isn't any better than 6-6 for the upcoming season.

Dooley's job is on the line, he knows it. He's got two potential NFL starters at WR, the most physically gifted QB in the SEC and a veteran group of OL that goes 7 deep.

If he can't beat one of either UGA, USCe, Alabama or UF with this team, there's something wrong.

Everyone said give him time, let him build the roster. Well, here it is and if 8 wins is all he can do, that's about all you'll get out of him.

I've already picked. 8-4 likely means he has shown no improvement here other than a stable roster. Most of the coaches in the SEC could win 10 with this team.
