Seriously though, if you can't keep a 2.0 (provided you don't have a learning disability) just forget about playing. I know guys who have kept over a 3.5, working fulltime and going to school full time, in undergraduate and graduate classes.
It's a rare POS that creates an entire program based on a lie to sell mothers.
This is part of the coaches job. It is Dooley's job to make sure that his students are on the right academic path to being eligible.
I don't think this alone is a huge deal, but more a reflection of the atmosphere that leads to mediocrity.
You know the carry over effect of a team laying down against Kentucky and going 5 and 7.
I see that as a lack of will.
He does this all the time - if he had said what you mentioned then I would be impressed.. but he has only done that 1 time since he has been here.. so it would be shocking as well. Dude is the complete opposite of Cuonzo who takes full responsibility for everything.
Dooley likes to say the coaches are to blame - but always throws in a "but statement" about how someone didn't do something right or someone else didn't do this or that. He's trying to take responsibility - but also put the blame on others at the same time.
Which is appropriate when there are multiple parties responsible. You know... The students have a responsibility to study, take advantage of resources and actually get the grade. You do realize that, don't you?
I find it insightful that two consecutive posts giving Dooley hell over this prove his lose/lose situation with the fans.
One claims that he sets a culture of mediocrity. The very next lambastes him for alluding to the fact that the players need to take responsibility.
It's quire hilarious, actually.
You guys should know by now how this will end. Reports come out of our lack of success in the classroom, fanbase freaks out thinking we will be playing with a bunch of scrubs in the fall, summer classes come along and SURPRISE SURPRISE.....most if not all of the players in trouble end up making the grades and are on the field in the fall.
I don't know if in the past someone was "cooking the books" on these academic reports but I can't help but think this is the norm for players every single season but we are just now hearing some truth to the results of our guys.
All will be good. It's a long summer boys, get some rest.
