Academic report from GVX....

Because it's a bold faced lie to get kids on campus if all you're supposed to do is keep them eligible.

That's a bit harsh.

At some point there is some responsibility that belongs to the players/students.

Having said that, the staff better be riding some asses this spring/summer.

This really scares me, why can't we just have a normal football year. No Academic Probation, no coaches leaving, no recruiting violations, no player controversy. Too much to ask I guess...

Seriously though, if you can't keep a 2.0 (provided you don't have a learning disability) just forget about playing. I know guys who have kept over a 3.5, working fulltime and going to school full time, in undergraduate and graduate classes.

you're talking about 2 completely different types of people. Not really a surprise

You're doing that blindly. I hope you aren't teaching your kids common sense in your five minute sessions.

He doesn't have kids. He's still a teenager and doesn't go to UT. Amazing how much he can teach those with kids and enhance us with vast football knowledge.

It's a rare POS that creates an entire program based on a lie to sell mothers.

Wait...so, you're saying that Dooley is a POS b/c the kids struggle in the classroom? The VFL program is supposed to help these kids prepare for life, particularly focusing on life after football -- i.e. teach them to handle money, be active in the community, and not rob people for cheeseburgers. Where exactly does he become a POS? Because he doesn't take the classes for the kids?

Maybe Dooley should choose their majors for them. They all can major in University Studies or Athletic Management. Maybe one day they can aspire to post pointless, uninformed drivel 25,000 times on a message board like you.

This is part of the coaches job. It is Dooley's job to make sure that his students are on the right academic path to being eligible.

I don't think this alone is a huge deal, but more a reflection of the atmosphere that leads to mediocrity.

You know the carry over effect of a team laying down against Kentucky and going 5 and 7.

I see that as a lack of will.

He does this all the time - if he had said what you mentioned then I would be impressed.. but he has only done that 1 time since he has been here.. so it would be shocking as well. Dude is the complete opposite of Cuonzo who takes full responsibility for everything.

Dooley likes to say the coaches are to blame - but always throws in a "but statement" about how someone didn't do something right or someone else didn't do this or that. He's trying to take responsibility - but also put the blame on others at the same time.

Which is appropriate when there are multiple parties responsible. You know... The students have a responsibility to study, take advantage of resources and actually get the grade. You do realize that, don't you?

I find it insightful that two consecutive posts giving Dooley hell over this prove his lose/lose situation with the fans.

One claims that he sets a culture of mediocrity. The very next lambastes him for alluding to the fact that the players need to take responsibility.

It's quire hilarious, actually.

That's fine, but they need to quit promoting the VFL program to recruits and mommas.

because of a down semester after an uptick in 3 straight fall semesters? Ditch the program? The program isn't based on 1 semester brofus.

I swear some of you are just flat out drama queens

So trying to make sure kids stay in school, stay eligible and hopefully graduate and maybe become the first in their family with a degree is a bold faced lie?

More nuggets of knowledge.

Agree! It's a classic definition of irony to me. People making excuses for the ones responsible by blaming the coaches and yet bash the coaches for making excuses.

You guys should know by now how this will end. Reports come out of our lack of success in the classroom, fanbase freaks out thinking we will be playing with a bunch of scrubs in the fall, summer classes come along and SURPRISE SURPRISE.....most if not all of the players in trouble end up making the grades and are on the field in the fall.

I don't know if in the past someone was "cooking the books" on these academic reports but I can't help but think this is the norm for players every single season but we are just now hearing some truth to the results of our guys.

All will be good. It's a long summer boys, get some rest.

It's a little higher than norm for that particular semester, but 15-20 scholarship players each year are in danger of losing eligibility throughout the year. The only things that have changed are the access to information, and curriculum is more difficult for the players than in the 80's/90's

It does serve as a platform for those that can't read, as in DD's comments saying they were all accountable, and for those that want to nag at DD at every opportunity.

There is no excuse for not being eligible. From the players, coaches and support staff. Let's see who is and who isn't.

What's kindof silly is that 25K students are responsible for their work and have no support system, but if the players struggle, it's not their responsibility, its Dooley's.
